Hotel Grones

This is one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed in. The owner and her daughter are almost always around. The room was very commodious, with excellent bed, a desk, table and chairs, sofa, and pleasant balcony. They have a dinner special every night: E30 for a five course gourmet meal. The chef is the son-in-law of the owner. The servers are incredibly attentive. They went out of their way to make sure that my wife’s food intolerances (lactose and gluten) were accounted for. Breakfasts were expansive with choices from boiled eggs to cereals to various breads and pastries. It was a bit of a hike from the village center but we went there to hike. Three ski lifts begin in Ortesei so we could zoom up a thousand feet or so and then hike in incredibly scenic country. In sum, the Hotel Grones was a superb base for our Alpine adventure.

We had a really lovely three nights at Hotel Grones. We tried to extend but they were fully booked! Won’t make that mistake again. Everything is better in person - the rooms are a generous size with nicely updated bathrooms and an extensive sauna and pool area - two levels! Our first time in Ortisei and the owners and staff took wonderful care of us. Had a lively night enjoying excellent cocktails with bartender Dani on Wednesday when the kitchen was closed. Grones is family run and run well - it is obvious they pay attention to the details. We are a little foodie so did not select the half board option but would next time. The dinners are an excellent quality and value - as others have also noted. The hotel is located up the hill from the center of town so be prepared to walk or do as we did and borrow the hotel bikes - we were down to the gondola in under 5 minutes and back in 10. Being doubly a first timer to the area and an American - I will absolutely be considering a return visit in the winter to ski, and will book at Grones without hesitation. They assured a hotel provided shuttle back and forth to the gondola so no lugging equipment up the hill.

We have recently returned from a week skiing in Ortisei area, staying in the Hotel Grones. We were a party of 16, with 6 rooms and ages ranging from 4 to a lot more than 4! This was the perfect hotel for everyone. It is a home from home; you feel you are staying in somebody’s large home with the family and staff treating you like royalty. My wife felt the hotel gave her a warm hug every day. It is perfect. The hotel is a 7 minute walk to the town via a lovely pedestrian path (ask for directions), and escalators. For skiing and other short trips the hotel have a mini bus that will drop you off or pick you up from 8.30am onwards. For pick up you just phone and they are there in minutes. The hotel has a large ski room. The ski hire spot dropped off and picked the equipment up from the hotel. We thought we might eat or hit the town some evenings; however the welcome is so warm, the service so good and the food so amazing, once we relaxed at the bar and restaurant we didn’t want to leave. Each evening was a 5 course dinner, selected from a small but varied menu in the morning. The chef Roman is very talented. The spa (and pool) is small but perfectly adequate. The best bit about the hotel is the friendliness and service from the owners (Nadia and Monica) and staff (eg Dani, Alwin and Lenka) . The attention to detail; from cleanliness, flowers, place settings, remembering names and drinks, is second to none. In summary, don’t look past the Hotel Grones.

We spent 6 wonderful nights at Hotel Grones. A truly perfect stay. The room was large, immaculate and had a lovely balcony with a great view. The meals were fantastic. The pool was lovely. The service was warm and friendly and excellent. In particular, the dining room staff - Dani, Aurelian, Victoria, and Florin were exceptionally attentive. The ladies at the front desk were also so helpful and kind. A top notch hotel.

The owners were here everyday and personally greeted everyone. They were available to answer questions about the area and the best way to reach our hiking destinations. The food was amazing!!! The rooms were large with plenty of closet space, comfortable beds, a mini refrigerator, and large bathrooms. There was an indoor pool and 3 types of saunas to relax in after a long day of hiking. We used public transportation to reach our hiking destinations. We purchased a bus pass and a 6 day lift pass which were a bargain considering how much we used them. Did I mention the food!!! Amazing breakfast every day and super every night except Wednesday.

We have just spent three nights on half board at this family-owned hotel in Ortisei in the Dolomites. It is immaculate. Quiet, spotlessly clean, furnished to a high standard, excellent owners and staff and top class meals. Our room's balcony had views across the valley. Can't praise this hotel highly enough.

We stayed with our two adult children for a week in February, and we all loved the hotel. The family are so welcoming, and all the staff incredibly helpful and friendly. The hotel is quite small which we liked, as it really felt very much like a family hotel and the staff knew the guests. The lobby and bar area were restful and beautifully decorated. The rooms are big. I asked for a mattress topper because the bed was a little too firm for me and providing one was no problem. The spa area was amazing, so relaxing, we loved the steam rooms, and it was great to have a separate adult section. The pool was only busy on one occasion during our week. The location was a fairly easy 10 minute walk up from the town. We really valued the Hotel Grones minibus that takes you to the lifts or town square. We never had to wait long for it, and it shuttles back and forth in the morning, and then you call when you would like to be collected. We hired skis and boots from Skirent Peter just off the town square and the minibus collected us from nearby, and we bought the lift passes on-line and the Hotel Grones kindly collected them for us - you just send them the voucher that you receive by email. These logistical things are really helpful. To get to the hotel we took a train from Innsbruck Airport/Station to Waidbruck and then a taxi from there was €47. Matteo was very helpful with information about the taxi and the lift passes. The food at the hotel was just incredible. It was beautifully presented, delicious and varied. There was an excellent choice of food at breakfast. There is no afternoon cake/snack buffet but you can make tea/coffee in your room. We enjoyed having a drink at the bar before dinner, there was always a lovely atmosphere and the drinks are reasonably priced. Dani makes the best Limoncello Spritz! There was live music on two nights which we really enjoyed - a harpist and an accordion player, and Nadia and her family were always around chatting to the guests and making sure everyone was happy. We would definitely return to the Hotel Grones. Our holiday there felt very special.

Hotel Grones is a family run hotel with excellent service and delicious and plentiful food. We had breakfast and dinner every day at the hotel and never felt the urge to go elsewhere. The staff are professional and friendly. It is easy to get around to town, to free buses, and to the lifts. I would come back again anytime.

We would return without hesitation. Excellent and very friendly service; beautiful rooms and facilities. Fantastic 'fine dining' and fabulous wait service. Only several minutes walk to beautiful old town centre and shops, and thence on to gondola and funicular. Great choices for walking in summer.
