We always use Van De Valk hotels on our annual travels because of the super quality of the hotel and rooms and the responsive customer service. During our stay at Van De Valk Essen, we had reason to visit reception discuss something that we weren't happy about with our room. Brit listened carefully and dealt with the problem quickly and efficiently. Excellent!

Booked a high tea with the family as a birthday outing. When we arrived we were directed to the table and the high tea was already on the table. No service to be seen, after about 10 minutes a waitress came to our table and she indicated that - after about half an hour - the hot items would be served. She didn't know what was in the smoothie, we asked her because 1 guest is not allowed to eat strawberries. No response of "I'll ask the kitchen" or something. We also asked her for hot water for the tea, which followed minutes later. In the meantime we had been sitting at the table for over fifteen minutes. After 45 minutes we walked to the bar twice and asked about the hot items of the high tea. Food of poor quality, including the sweet items, came straight from the packaging of the wholesaler, that's how it looked and tasted. Dry rolls with 1 centimeter strip of brie, 2 small strips of salmon, no, not for us again. Totally not worth the money. Also no service at the table in the 2 hours we were there, to ask if we would like to drink something else? (up selling ??). Disappointed and hungry we left the hotel. Even a "see you later" could not be gotten from the reception (there were 3 employees). And, toilets in the reception area dirty, no towels, wet on the floors et cetera

While the hotel is cute the service is atrocious. The front desk staff is unprofessional, disrespectful and rude. It's like traveling into the past century and encountering people with no service training and people skills. It is to the extend where I was not able to get a name of the rude personel. She refused to share her name because of "privacy" reasons while they have my passport, credit card and address. Even getting in touch with the manager to resolve the issue was an issue! And I wasn't given a name or a way to contact the manager in timely manner. Again, while the design of the hotel is nice, the staff experience puts an awful taste in the mouth. I come to Assen annually, will never stay at this hotel and will recommended everyone I know against staying in the future.

I stayed here for one night to visit a concert in Groningen. Pricewise it was expensive. But the room itself (402) was big and was modern. Good beds, shower and bath. Mini fridge and small coffee maker in the room. Hotel was full with guests for the concert, but no travel service was arranged. When I mentioned it, they came to the conclusion that it might have been a good plan… Restaurant is decent but not spectacular. Service in the restaurant is good. Extra: hotel has a lot of charging stations for EV.

Very large hotel. Spacious room and bathroom with bath, separate shower and toiletries. Sliding door gives access to shared outdoor space (balcony). We had food in the bar and we really enjoyed it, reasonably priced. Pool table and dartboard in bar area but slightly tucked away. The pool and wellness facilities are free and really well maintained. Very clean and lots of choice: salt sauna, herb sauna, Finnish sauna, hamam, infrared sauna, foot baths and snow shower. Towels are provided and there are free lockers in the changing rooms. Changing rooms are not mixed. Enjoyed our stay.

This hotel is one of the best I have stayed at! The rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. The spa area offers some amahzing saunas and even a real snow shower to cool off. The room to relaxe offers free water and a fireplace. The pool has a nice temperature and is of the highes standard. Just the spa alone is worth visiting. But dinner is also an experience! Very tasty and good food! The breakfast is the same. I will be back!

I had a parcel delivered one day before I arrived but the receptionist was hopeless and was not keen to find and deliver my parcel. She was indifferent, hopeless and not supportive. she was very unmotivated.

The hotel is quite massive and in a serene location in Assen. There are lots of of good facilities. The wellness facility is excellent. Massive swimming pool and SPA. I particularly also like the breakfast

Hotel room was very nice and spacious for my short visit - good sized bathroom with more than ample amenities. Both breakfast and lunch (particularly the lunch) were very good. Bar and table service very good and professional.

The hotel offers everything when travelling for business, staff were friendly and helpful, and spoke English too which was great as i dont speak Dutch. The food offering is vast probably the best breakfast spread i have seen and the quality excellent. The room was clean and tidy and my room had a balcony which faced the road giving a nice view but the noise from the vehicles travelling on road could be faintly heard in my room, but I did sleep well considering this. I would definitely stay again and i would recommend to others.

Great food and fast service. I had the best food with them, I enjoyed it very much. I only had a little time and they understood this. So i had my food quickly. Elderly menu with 2 fishes potatoes and salad. You can get side dishes as much as you want. Without any restrictions. Service is good, and ambiance also nice.

Great that they have a swimming pool now. Really lovely. Had it all to myself for over a hour.,Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant lovely and food great. Good location for my needs. Nice bar and had a dart board. Yay!

Wat een bizar slechte ervaring! Voor mijn partner zijn verjaardag een overnachting geboekt.(hier hebben ze wel goed op ingespreeld) Vooraf nog telefonisch contact gehad om na te vragen of er een babybed beschikbaar was om zeker te zijn dat mijn dochter van 6mnd een goede slaapplek zou hebben. Aangekomen bleek het bedje vries te zijn, de matrashoes zo klein dat deze bol stond(met het gewicht van mijn dochter niet recht te krijgen) En het matras veel kleiner dan het bedje. Super gevaarlijk, vooral nu mijn dochter flink aan het rollen is. Dit aangegeven bij de recepte. Hier zijn 2 andere matrasjes tevoorschijn gehaald (erg fijn dat er moeite is gedaan) maar bleken ook in een te strakke hoes te zitten en veel te klein voor het bed. Met veel ruimte aan zowel zij- als boven/onderkant ervoor gekozen om, ivm de veiligheid van mijn dochter (overal is bekend/te vinden dat een matras moet passen in het bed omdat dit anders gevaarlijk kan zijn) te vertrekken. Hier kan ze niet veilig in slapen. Aangegeven bij de receptie dat we ivm veiligheid vertrekken en de vraag om geld terug kregen we een keiharde nee. Er waren geen managers aanwezig, een mail van een "leidinggevende?" die niet te bellen was met ook een nee zonder ook maar enige vorm van inleving en een niet meedenkende receptie maakte het er niet beter op. Wel kregen we nog de opmerking " dit is altijd goed gegaan (goh, en wat als het nu wel mis gaat?!) En een dan had je zelf maar een bedje mee moeten nemen kregen we nog wel mee. De kamer was "non refundable" en dus niet aan te passen/kregen we geen geld terug ondanks het belletje vooraf met de vraag of er een bedje was en de onveilige situaties die dit bedje veroorzaakt heeft. Daarnaast is de refundable kamer tot 12.00 uur te annuleren wat het al lang geweest was, dit argument slaat dus nergens op aangezien het andere type ook al niet meer te "annuleren" was. We zijn op locatie geweest, wouden hier met liefde blijven maar kon op deze manier echt niet. We zijn er van 15.30 tot 18.30 uur geweest, hebben hier maximaal voor betaald en heeft de verjaardag van mijn partner volledig verpest. Ik raad het iedereen af om hier met kinderen heen te gaan, super onveilige bedjes en een groot risico voor je kind. Daarnaast is het inlevingsvermogen en meedenkend vermogen ook beneden maats voor wat ik gewend ben van een Valk hotel.

Hier willen wij ook graag op terugkomen. Op het moment van uw melding, is er door de receptie direct gekeken naar een alternatief kinderbedje. Ons hotel beschikt over zowel de campingbedjes als houten ledikanten. De ledikanten waren (helaas) al in gebruik door andere gasten, waardoor de receptie hier niet in kon schuiven. Vervolgens zijn er nog alternatieve matrasjes naar u gebracht. Ook met een voorstel om een ander hoeslaken te gebruiken zodat deze strakker in het bedje zal komen te liggen. Naar onze mening heeft de dienstdoende receptioniste er álles aan gedaan om uw verblijf zo comfortabel mogelijk te laten verlopen en meegedacht in meerdere opties. Wij willen deze situatie uiteraard nog graag aan u toelichten per mail of telefoon, mocht u hier nog behoefte aan hebben. Aarzel dan niet om contact op te nemen met onze Front Office Manager.
