The Steinhuder Meer lies approx. 30 km west of Hanover and is with 32 square kilometers the largest lake of Lower Saxony, in the heart of the eponymous nature park with 310 square kilometers. The most important resorts on the Steinhuder Meer are Mardorf, Steinhude, Hagenburg and Rehburg-Loccum. The landscape is diverse with dunes, bogs, heathland, wet meadows, deciduous and coniferous forests and reed zones.
