Pros: We were looking for a place on the lower end of the price spectrum that was a one night romantic getaway for two, that I could also use my free trip coins at toward the cost of the room. Preferably including breakfast and a swimming pool with jacuzzi 😉 Not much to ask!
We booked one of the cheaper rooms on the ground floor.
Before check in we took an Uber to San Pedro mall to do some essential shopping and see a movie. Then we checked in and I relaxed in the jacuzzi under the San José night sky while my husband enjoyed a full workout in the gym/weights room. TV with cable was great for my husband who enjoyed the football while I enjoyed the hot shower and relaxed in the bed afterwards. We had an amazingly comfortable sleep and a delicious breakfast in the morning of gallo pinto, fresh tropical fruits, freshly squeezed watermelon juice and hot coffee. A generous check out time of 12pm meant we had more than enough time to get our things together and leave when it suited.
Cons: Not many cons at this price point and value. The guy at the desk was a bit weird when we asked him for a second glass for water as there was only one in the room but not a big deal. We also had to ask him for the TV remote. The towels were a bit small like a mini dress on me after my shower. But good quality (with a third extra towel for the jacuzzi) and high quality bed linen. It also is in a slightly rough looking neighborhood but this is not a problem if you travel to and from the hotel by Uber or use a hire car (which you can park privately inside the property).
Overall impression: The other photos on trip.com and similar booking sites do not do this hotel justice - it looks far better in person. It has real character since it is a restored historic hotel from an era bygone, but that is why everything is such high quality from the bed linen to the floor tiles. Everything is also in good shape and freshly painted. There a little hidden nooks around the hotel that make it very charming. The breakfast area is lovely and the jacuzzi, pool and water slide were a real highlight. We WILL be back.

TTài khoản kháchWe loved the staff and the location. We tried the restaurant of the hotel and found the food to be great but expensive. We liked our room but missed some basic items like a showercap and the sleepers we are used to finding in hotels like this one. They only provide 2 free bottles of water, so do not expect a couple each day like in other hotels. The internet connection was really disappointing. The bed was comfortable, and the room was ok overall.

* You will hear the music from the bar across the park until 3am. Not much noises from the regular city streets.
* No fresh air available in this hotel. All the windows are sealed.
* No fridge, no Netflix. But plenty of english channels on tv.
* good internet.
* excellent hot water, and water pressure.
* small gym ok, but no windows, and tv was not working.
* nice indoor pool, but water too cold for me. No windows but a clear dome.
* breakfast have ok choices, not much for a vegetarian.
* restaurant expensive like any other hotel, but the staff is sympathic.
* free parking.
* very nice staff.
* reservation with Trip.com was a complication, they didn't have my reservation. Took 1h to check-in. At the check-out they charged me the room that was already paid on Trip.com, had to ask for a refund, which they did, no arguying but a lot of explanations and proof of payment... but the staff was really polite and helpful.
* only 1 person working at the counter for check-in and check-out..
* easy to walk everywhere.
* easy to navigate with google map or waze.

Not so good, receptionists abrupt and unwelcoming, we were told to see the bell man to organise a lift to the airport and he just left us standing at his desk organising about 10 suitcases and then walked off to deliver them to various rooms. We went for breakfast at 05.00 as it says on room information and was told when checking out it opens at 05.30. We had a flight to catch and make our own way to the airport so no breakfast.

I had a fantastic stay at Hostel Casa Colón — it exceeded my expectations in every way. The location is incredibly convenient, especially if you’re heading to or from the airport or bus terminals. The staff were welcoming and helpful, offering great local tips. My room was clean, secure, and surprisingly quiet despite being in the city. The common areas are stylish and spacious, with a cozy on-site restaurant that serves excellent breakfast and coffee. It truly felt more like a boutique guesthouse than a typical hostel. Highly recommend for solo travelers, couples, or anyone looking for comfort and value in San José.

TTài khoản kháchIt's a decent hotel with a lot of details that aren't quite right. The rooms are comfortable and the beds are excellent. The maid didn't empty the trash cans during our two-night stay, nor was the shampoo ever refilled in the dispenser in the shower. There are no carpets or rugs in the room so you're constantly walking on luxury vinyl plank flooring with wet feet. After you get out of the shower. There are no Kleenex boxes or dispensers in the room, and the TV programming was difficult to decipher, especially the secondary audio program in order to listen to the TV in English rather than Spanish. Also, the closed captioning never worked on the TV
