The Florida Keys are located off the southern coast of Florida. In the early 1900’s, the Florida Keys were only accessible by boat. This changed with the completion of the Henry Flagler Overseas Railway in 1912. In 1935, a hurricane destroyed Flagler’s Overseas Railway, and a decision was made to convert the railway into an automobile roadway.
