Our stay at 小山居 (Xiao Shan Ju) was hands-down the highlight of our Yangshuo trip. We spent five days in Yangshuo and tried two different accommodations… but let’s just say our hearts checked in and never checked out of 小山居. Yes, the location is a little more on the remote side, but honestly that’s part of its magic. It’s easily reachable by Didi or scooter, yet tucked away enough to feel like you’ve escaped into a quiet countryside village. They kept the charm of the old village house while giving it a modern, comfy upgrade. Bonus: the blanket was SO comfortable we literally flipped it over to find the brand because we wanted to buy it for ourselves. And then there’s Aimee—the soul of the place. Warm, thoughtful, impossibly accommodating… and an amazing cook. She can whip up both Western-style brunches and Chinese breakfasts, all delicious, but a special shoutout goes to her 葱油面. It was so good we shamelessly asked for the recipe, which she kindly shared. Her food was so addictive that even after we moved to our next accommodation, we still went back for dinner. If you’d like Aimee to cook for you, just let her know in advance—she buys her ingredients fresh from the market, and the veggies come straight from her garden! If you’re heading to Yangshuo, we highly recommend staying here. Aimee also gives fantastic local recommendations—every single one was a hit, never a miss, never even a “so-so”. We’d go back in a heartbeat. 💛

This guest house left me with mixed feelings. Let's start with the good things. The location is super convenient: right in the old town and yet in a relatively quiet area. It's close to the river so you can take a refreshing night stroll, and close to a delicious bakery/café you'll never forget. The atmosphere of the guest house is rustic and cozy, with a laundry room that, despite its very limited space, serves the purpose. There are also cats and a dog you can freely play with. The bed was comfortable for us (a bit on the harder side). The owners speak English so you can easily communicate with them. They are very kind and helpful. However, a few things about this stay got me extremely disappointed, particularly taking into consideration the positive reviews I had read (which honestly I don't understand where they came from). The room was far from clean. There was a very visible layer of dust. The cushion seats had huge stains and looked dirty overall. The shower room did not get cleaned very regularly, as you can see from the picture. In general everything in the property looked outdated and cheap (wobbly sink taps, doors with huge gaps, that give way to all sorts of bugs and giant spiders..). The fact that the toilet is next to the shower room leaves no room for privacy and makes the toilet floor wet most of the time (this could be solved with a proper shower door instead of a curtain). In conclusion, I was more than happy to leave the property because it did not meet my standards for comfort and hygiene. However, if you don't particularly care about a certain degree of dirt and dust here and there, and are cool with bugs, then you should definitely go for it as you might really like the retro atmosphere of the place.

Đây thực sự là một khách sạn đẹp. Rất sạch sẽ (họ thay giường và khăn tắm mỗi ngày, lau sàn nhà, v.v.). Ở trung tâm thành phố. Buổi tối hơi ồn một chút vì cuộc sống đường phố, nhưng đối với chúng tôi thì không thành vấn đề. Rất tiện lợi nếu bạn không ăn đồ ăn Trung Quốc, gần khách sạn có Macdonalds, Starbucks, Luckin Coffee, Italian Pizza, Nhà hàng Việt Nam.

GREAT experience. Such a nice and helpful staff, we had a warm welcome and they were very keen on helping us during our journey in Yangshuo. The location is right in West Street and close by the river, with amazing views. The room was very confortable and clean, had AC. I definitely recommend! --- Super expérience. Le personnel est patient, aimable et surtout est prêt à vous aider sur n'importe quel sujet. L'hôtel est super bien localisé, la chambre est propre et confortable, avec la clim. Je recommande grandement, un rapport qualité/prix super

It's definitely worth to stay there. The entrance through the dressing shop is nice and unique. Also the bar at the upper floor is nice, not busy and you can enjoy time there. I got a really nice room directly with view on the streets.
