Hôtel le Cantou 354

Set in a simply beautiful hill top village the hotel doesn't really advertise its name so you have to look for it. But boy is it worth the effort. I write as a dog owner so am reviewing from that point. The owner manager is a dog owner (of the delightful Scarlett) so understands all about how good it is to have a ground floor room with garden access! Our dog friendly room was as close to the garden as you could get and whilst it wouldn't be described as luxurious it was all you'd ever ask for with a decent sized well equipped bathroom. The highlight of Le Cantou 354 is undoubtedly the restaurant with the owners Christophe and Romain a close second and the food is heavenly. Coupled with a pretty good wine list as well. The restaurant is perhaps eccentrically styled but it works really well and there is a sense of occasion with stunning views (and sunsets from the corner table). The dogs were allowed in without a murmur which isn't always the case now in France. Breakfast is self service and there's a good selection of the usual tasty french fare. The staff without exception are happy, helpful and polite.

Stayed one night as part of a hiking trip. Run by Christophe and his partner. Christophe was very welcoming and quite a character. Made our drinks and dinner very entertaining. Romaine was in the kitchen and prepared a fabulous dinner - soup, charcuterie, salads, …. All washed down with some very nice local wine. And all with a great view from their terrace. Rooms are fine - comfortable with everything you might need. Good shower, towels and linen.

I really loved this hotel. From the moment I arrived the staff were both very friendly and very professional. Compared to other quite staid and old school hotels I’ve stayed in recent days, it’s got some life and colour and the rooms have a more modern feel to them. It has everything that you need and with the fan in the ceiling not having air conditioning wasn’t an issue at all. I had a wonderful dining experience for dinner too. Food was good, service was wonderful and it was lovely and relaxing to sit in the outside warmth for a good couple of hours plus. I really don’t know why it is two stars as it was just lovely all around. I would love to have been able to stay another couple of nights.

We highly recommend this hotel. Don’t understand why it receives only a two star. Other than the fact that the rooms don’t have air conditioning. The rooms are small and very simple, but very clean and have great views. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. The hotel restaurant is very good and we recommend eating there. The breakfast that is included with the room is good. The staff is very helpful, friendly, and attentive.

Fantastic, quirky retro hotel with second-to-none service and hospitality. I would love this to remain a hidden gem but new proprietor Chris and his team deserve to do really well. Excellent and surprisingly gastronmique fine dining menu, but kept limited so it doesn't over-reach. Altogether a joyful stay.

If you want warm hospitality, friendly service and delicious food then this is your place . We had a very welcoming and fun overnight stay whilst hiking in the Dordogne. Christophe was so very accommodating and the pasta bolognaise was amazing! Thank you so much Christophe and Romain.

Accueil très chaleureux, au centre d'un lieu magnifique, restaurant très cocoon, je recommande le tartare de bœuf préparé de manière novatrice, à découvrir absolument !

Accueil remarquable, confort remarquable, site remarquable, dîner remarquable; rapport qualité prix exceptionnel . À conseiller sans modération. J'y retournerai avec grand plaisir. C'est une expérience rare dans l'hôtellerie aujourd'hui qui mérite d'être soulignée.

Bel emplacement et parking privé appréciable vu fréquentation du site. chambre et salle d'eau (très) petites, literie confortable. air conditionné dans la chambre. repas correct sans être exceptionnel pour un prix assez élevé. petit déjeuner classique dans une pièce un peu exiguë.
