This place is amazing. I’m a local who can honestly say that staying here will spoil you with location, service, cleanliness, history, breakfast, staff, everything! Everyone is very professional. The parking is easy and convenient. There is a lovely afternoon tea, nightcaps in the lobby, and turndown service. They offer breakfast in the room or the lovely courtyard or ballroom. You will love staying here.

Even before our visit Jim, the concierge, was amazing with handling restaurant reservations for us and any other request or questions. We were thrilled with the service before we even arrived! The location was superb!! Walking distance to absolutely everything we wanted to do in downtown Charleston! And the room??? Well… there are just no words that are adequate! I am also an innkeeper, and as a surprise they upgraded us to one of the Main House Grand Suites! It was exceptional with 12-foot high ceilings, separate living room, beautiful (and comfortable) bedroom, jetted tub and … (a must)… fabulous water pressure in the shower! Delicious breakfast served each morning in the courtyard. (They also host afternoon tea every afternoon but we were usually out and about during that time). I gladly and wholeheartedly give the accommodations and the staff of the John Rutledge House Inn a Five Star Rating!

From the moment I arrived every aspect of my stay at John Rutledge House Inn was delightful. The historic home is grand and beautifully maintained inside and around the grounds. The room are lovely. The attention of the pleasant and informative staff enhanced my stay. And, importantly, parking is adjacent to the Inn!

Amazing place to stay! Steeped in history with great service and hospitality. Food was good and the rooms were spacious and decorated beautifully. Walking distance to King Street shops, market and restaurant. Parking in the rear. lWould stay again!

I selected this Historic Inn for our 30th anniversary because of all the good reviews and I wasn't disappointed. The Inn is charming and staff exudes true southern hospitality. The breakfast was delicious and the location was great. Easy walking distance to everything in safe and quiet neighborhood. I look forward to staying at John Rutledge House again!! Thank you staff for a great and memorable Anniversary.

The John Rutledge House Inn breaks open 18th century Charlestonian life. As you ascend up the front staircase, you enter the Federalist era. The architecture speaks volumes. There are told and untold histories within these walls, populated by Colonial figures of some consequence. The untold stories linger in the search for the workmen and women who built, decorated, and maintained this house. Ask for Room 5 - a substantial suite, two full well appointed rooms and a full bath with everything you want. It is in the design and decor that history unfolds. And how comfortable! Conceirges, Josh and Jim, were ready to listen, respond, offer insight, and help plan your visit: Charleston offers much to do, to see, and to eat. The Housekeeper and Breakfast server (served either in the Ballroom, on the Patio or in your room) are professional and hospitable. There are a couple of partner historical house inns in Charleston. We have taken seasonal romantic getaways regularly in Charleston. The Rutledge House Inn is a place to return to.

My wife and I spent two magnificent nights at the architecturally and historically significant John Rutledge Inn. From arrival to departure the staff could not have been more friendly, inviting and helpful and we were treated like family. We stayed in room 1 on the ground floor which is large, well-appointed with luxury bedding and towels and a contemporary en-suite bathroom with upscale amenities. We had sumptuous breakfasts and afternoon tea in the beautiful, high ceiling parlor where John Rutledge, a Founding Father, wrote parts of the U.S. Constitution and felt honored by the experience. The Inn has a perfect location for guests wishing to walk to the center or window shop at the countless nearby boutique-like stores.

The Rutledge House is a must-do experience in Charleston. From the gorgeous room to afternoon tea and breakfast on the piazza it was a perfect way to welcome the New Year. The staff is overly helpful and all of Charleston is steps away.

We loved our stay at John Rutledge House Inn. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The breakfasts were made to order and afternoon tea treats were delicious. The Inn is located in the historic area so we could walk everywhere we wanted to go.
