My recent stay at Hotel Kooyk in Amsterdam was marred by a shocking and unacceptable experience. I feel compelled to share my dissatisfaction and disappointment in the hope of preventing others from facing a similar ordeal. My two friends and I were looking forward to a pleasant and comfortable stay at this hotel, but our night was anything but restful. Imagine our shock when a mouse invaded our room during the night, actually running on our bed. The initial reaction from the hotel staff was less than reassuring. When we brought up the issue, we received a flippant response along the lines of, "we don't invite them in. I get them at home." This response was far from the professional and empathetic attitude one would expect from a hospitality establishment. The issue only escalated when we inquired whether such an occurrence was acceptable in a hotel, to which the response was, "ah probably not." The complete lack of apology, concern, or compensation was truly disheartening. It's imperative to stress that this incident not only disrupted our night but left us feeling uneasy about the overall hygiene and condition of the hotel. If one mouse managed to infiltrate our room, it's safe to assume there might be a broader issue within the hotel premises. We requested a more suitable solution, but the offered course of action was to mention the issue to the maid, who "might be able to help." This solution was inadequate and far from reassuring, considering the gravity of the problem. I implore Hotel Kooyk to address this issue promptly, with the utmost seriousness it deserves. I would appreciate a response from the owner or management to explain how they intend to resolve this issue and what measures they will take to ensure it does not happen to other guests in the future. In light of this unfortunate experience, I believe it is only fair for the hotel to compensate us. The room we paid for was clearly not fit for purpose. Mice are classified as vermin, and it is unacceptable to have them running amok in a guest's room. In conclusion, I cannot recommend Hotel Kooyk to anyone, even as a budget option. I strongly urge potential guests to consider paying a little extra to stay at an establishment where hygiene and guest satisfaction are given the priority they deserve.
