A Family Day Out in Tilburg with Our 4-Year-Old
Tilburg is a great city to explore with kids, and we had such a fun day out with our 4-year-old son! Here’s how our little family adventure went.
Arrival at Tilburg Train Station
We started our day by arriving at Tilburg Train Station, which is really well connected and easy to navigate. From here, it was just a 5-minute walk to our first stop: the famous LocHal Public Library.
Exploring LocHal Library (Burgemeester Brokxlaan 1000, 5041 SG Tilburg)
As soon as we walked in, we were amazed by how beautiful this library is! It’s built inside an old train workshop, and the mix of industrial and modern design is stunning. Apparently, it was even named World Building of the Year in 2019—and we could totally see why!
Our son loved running up and down the wide stairs and exploring the different sections. There are plenty of cozy spots to sit, so we grabbed a coffee while he flipped through some picture books in the kids’ area. It’s such a relaxing place to start the day.
Playtime at Spoorpark (10-minute walk from LocHal)
After the library, we took a 10-minute walk to Spoorpark, one of the biggest parks in Tilburg. It’s a fantastic green space with a playground, a little water feature, and plenty of open areas to run around. Our son had a blast climbing and playing while we enjoyed the fresh air.
For a bit of adventure, there’s a watchtower in the park that offers an amazing view of the city. It was a bit too high for our little one, but we took turns going up while he played below.
Discovering the TextielMuseum (Goirkestraat 96, 5046 GN Tilburg)
Next, we walked about 15 minutes to TextielMuseum, a fascinating place that combines history, art, and hands-on exhibits. We weren’t sure if our 4-year-old would enjoy it, but he actually loved watching the old weaving machines in action!
The museum also has some interactive displays where kids can feel different fabrics and even try small weaving activities. It was a nice mix of learning and fun. By this point, we were all getting hungry, so we grabbed lunch at the museum’s TextielCafé, which had some great kid-friendly options.
Treasure Hunting at the Flea Market (15-minute walk from the museum)
After lunch, we took another 15-minute walk to check out one of Tilburg’s flea markets. The location changes, so it’s best to check online for where it’s happening that day.
There were so many interesting things to browse through—vintage toys, books, and even some cute handmade clothes. Our son was fascinated by an old toy train set, and we ended up getting him a little wooden car as a souvenir.
Dinner at Xu Noodle Bar (Heuvelring 67, 5038 CJ Tilburg)
By the time evening came, we were all ready for a good meal. We headed to Xu Noodle Bar, just a short walk from the flea market, for some delicious Vietnamese food.
It was fantastic day, we will be back here soon
