Kyoto's Serenity to Tokyo's Energy in One Day

Kyoto:
We checked out of our Kyoto Tower Hotel Annex and left our luggage at the hotel before heading to Fushimi Inari Taisha early in the morning. By 7 am, we were there, with not a soul in sight—this was the perfect time to snap photos of the iconic torii gates, even from the entrance, without the usual crowds. The peaceful morning air and the absence of people made for a serene experience.
Afterward, we strolled through the Fushimi neighborhood, where we watched the trains pass by along the tracks, right through the streets. It felt like stepping into a scene from a film. We also visited Matsuya, a charming local confectionery shop run by elderly Japanese folks, where we had traditional fox-shaped senbei—a delightful snack that added to the authenticity of the moment.
For lunch, we headed to Fushimi Inari Oicy Village, a 3-story food court offering a variety of tasty options. We indulged in matcha soft serve and tori burgers, savoring the rich flavors before our dessert stop.
We couldn't resist trying the incredible purple sweet potato Mont Blanc and ice cream at Imo Pippi. The unique, rich flavors were the perfect sweet treat after a day of exploring.
Returning to Kyoto Station, we picked up our luggage from the hotel and boarded the Shinkansen for our journey to Tokyo Station. Upon arrival, we checked into Sotetsu Fresca Inn at Shimbashi, dropped off our bags, and set out to explore Tokyo.
Tokyo:
Our first stop was the bustling Shibuya Scramble Crossing, where we marveled at the organized chaos of pedestrians crossing in all directions. We also visited Hachiko Square and did some shopping at Shibuya Center-Gai and Parco. From a rooftop in the area, we caught a glimpse of Mount Fuji in the distance, an unexpected treat amidst the urban landscape.
Next, we visited the Shibuya Blue Caves and Yoyogi Park Zelkova Trees for the annual Christmas event. The blue-lit trees created a magical atmosphere, adding a festive touch to the evening.
As the night drew in, we made our way to Ikebukuro to try Mutekiya Ramen, a famous spot known for its incredible ramen, which stays open late. The rich, savory broth was a perfect end to our busy day.
Afterward, we returned to our hotel, reflecting on the vibrant contrasts between Kyoto’s tranquility and Tokyo’s energetic buzz. All hotels were booked via Trip.com, ensuring a smooth and comfortable experience throughout our trip.
