#2024mapped On 1939, German initiated an attack on Gdansk, marking the start of WWII. By the end of 1939, 90% of the city was brought down to pieces. What I was seeing was the deliberate reconstruction, which many said, intentionally deviate from how it originally looked like and German influences, so at quite many places, the old town area looked just like another famous harbour city: Amsterdam. Transportation tips: It’s reachable by train in about 3hrs from both Poznan and Warsaw. One good thing I love of Poland train is that it remains pretty much the same price even till the last minute before train departs; however, ticketing is only open 1 month ahead of time. Accommodation tips: If you’re staying inside the old town, you might not wanna carry a large suitcase, unless you’re a strong man in full health, coz the brick roads are not the smoothest for rollers.

#traveldiaries Visiting Gdańsk Old Town was like stepping into a storybook! The architecture here is stunning, with its mix of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles. Walking down Długi Targ, the main street, I felt surrounded by history. The colorful merchant houses and the iconic Neptune Fountain are must-sees. There’s no entrance fee to explore the Old Town, and it’s perfect for a leisurely stroll. I also visited the Green Gate and took a boat ride along the Motława River (around 45 PLN), offering fantastic views of the medieval crane and the waterfront. St. Mary’s Church, one of the largest brick churches in the world, is another highlight, and you can climb the tower for breathtaking views of the city (10 PLN entry). If you’re into museums, don’t miss the Artus Court or the Amber Museum. Nearby, you’ll find lovely cafés, amber shops, and small galleries. Gdańsk Old Town has an amazing mix of culture, history, and scenic beauty. #summerdestinations This summer, I spent a day wandering through the enchanting streets of Old Town Gdańsk, and it was nothing short of magical! The heart of the city is brimming with history, and for just 25 PLN ($6), you can step back in time as you stroll down the famous Długa Street, lined with colorful, intricately designed buildings. The architecture is absolutely stunning, and the Gothic-style St. Mary’s Basilica is a must-see—it’s the largest brick church in the world, and entry is only 12 PLN ($3). One of my favorite spots was the Neptune Fountain, a symbol of Gdańsk’s maritime history. Nearby, the Artus Court, which served as a meeting place for merchants, is another impressive sight. I also popped into the Amber Museum (20 PLN or $5), where I learned so much about the "Baltic Gold" that the city is famous for. After exploring, I took a break at a riverside cafe along the Motława River, soaking in the view of the medieval crane and enjoying some delicious Polish pierogi. If you have time, I highly recommend a quick trip to Westerplatte, about a 15-minute drive away, where World War II began. It’s a somber yet important historical site.
