PASHUPATINATH TEMPLE - THE LARGEST HINDU TEMPLE IN NEPAL

Pashupatinath Temple is located on both banks of the Bagmati River on the eastern outskirts of Kathmandu. Bagmati is the most sacred river to the Nepalese, as the Ganges is to the Indians. Pashupatinath is the largest Hindu temple in Nepal, and also the most important temple to Shiva in the country. Before each long trip or important work, the Nepalese king often comes here to pray and receive blessings from the gurus. Pashupatinath was built in the 19th century, but many of the statues, rafters in the temple, as well as small shrines were built more than 300 years ago, some of which are up to 700 years old. Before approaching and admiring Pashupatinath (from the outside), the small shrines with bold Hindu features and delicate, graceful carvings are enough to make visitors flutter. Pashupatinath is more than just a temple. It is also the place where the deceased are cremated in accordance with Hindu customs. Visitors can even see open-air cremations right on the riverbank.
