Perhaps the most remarkable symbol throughout China's brilliant history is the Great Wall. It is an extremely strong citadel with sections of walls and fortresses running parallel to each other. It was originally formed from the idea of emperor Qin Shi Huang (259-210 BC) around the 3rd century BC to prevent attacks by barbarian foreigners on the Chinese empire, that is One of the largest-scale protection works has been completed.
The best known and most carefully preserved section of the city wall is the section of the city wall built in the 14th to 17th centuries during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The Great Wall is one of the most ambitious works in the history of human civilizations.
The famous general during the Qin Dynasty, Mong Diem - who was mainly responsible for building the wall, announced that he used a huge number of soldiers, prisoners, and civilians to serve the construction.
Built mainly from earth and stone, the wall stretches more than 3,000 miles west from the Bohai coast, Shanhaiguan stretches across 9 provinces, 100 counties and ends in northwest Gansu province. In some important strategic areas, wall sections were built on top of each other to provide maximum defense, including the Badaling section which is the most visited section of wall in the capital city of Beijing. 50 miles northwest, is the section of wall that was later built by the Ming Dynasty.
The highest point of Badaling is more than 1,000m above sea level and this is also the first section of the city wall to be opened to visitors since 1957. Today, the Great Wall is recognized as one of the the most impressive architecture in history. In 1987, UNESCO recognized the Great Wall as a World Heritage Site. In the 20th century, a claim emerged about the Great Wall being the only man-made structure visible from the air.
Over the years, many roads have been built across the wall at some points, and many sections of the wall have been damaged after centuries of neglect. The most famous section of the Great Wall is Badaling, which was last restored in 1950 and attracts thousands of Chinese tourists every day.#awesomepic #couplestrip #awesomepic
