Kleines Heim

If you ever happen to be visiting Namibia and have some days to spend in Windhoek, you should certainly consider staying at this "Little Home". Surrounded by tall walls and not far from the town center, even on foot, Kleines Heim sits in a quiet space beside a reedy creek. Inside the walls you almost feel like in an island of peace and resting is assured, as old structures usually have sturdy walls and this little home's buildings are at least a century old. However, the best thing about Kleines Heim is not its palm or tall eucalyptus trees, or the swimming pool at its center, or the pleasant shade that the giant ficus tree casts just outside the kitchen. The best of it is how homely it feels under the management of its current host, Gerda, who is friendly, welcoming and resourceful. I spent twelve days in that simple yet pleasing space and, since the first minutes, I felt like home. If I ever find myself in Windhoek for another visit to Namibia, Kleines Heim will no doubt be my stop in there.
