The Mudcastle

I stayed at the mudcastle in January 2024 with a group of friends, it was an amazing stay ! We had just gotten back from 5 nights of camping and this was such a lovely haven to stay at after that :) Glenys was a wonderful host, and the place was beautiful and spotless. We definitely plan to stay here again !

We had our wedding at The Mudcastle and stayed over both the night before and night of the wedding, along with our bridal party. The hosts Glenys and Kevin are extremely hospitable and welcoming. They really go the extra mile to ensure everyone is happy and everything goes smoothly. Great communication from the get go, gave us help with suggestions for our wedding planning and came through to save the day a few times at the last minute! The venue itself is beautifully crafted out of golden Nelson clay and structured with a strongly castle inspired theme. The inside has a lot of character with various ornaments and furniture collected over the years. The location is great if you want somewhere a little remote, particularly good for a wedding as you can be sure you wont be interrupted by unwanted uninvited guests. It's also set on a hill with great views of the forest around and lots of native birds flitting about in the outdoor areas. There are lots of different little areas for guests to explore and find charming unexpected details. We'd highly recommend The Mudcastle as a venue for any event or stay. The hosts make you feel at home and the rooms are unique with comfy beds and bedding. There is also plenty of parking availability on site. Thanks for a beautiful wedding and a great trip, we'll no doubt be back some day!

Lovely welcoming hosts with a fantastic tale to tell. From a couple who had a dream and the courage to pursue it. Resulting in this wondeferful and unique property. Thank you for sharing your home with our groups.

The marketing information has very nice photos, however these must have been taken some time ago, as the castle has aged and needs lots of maintenance. Our first impression when arriving was very disappointing with a construction site occurring at the front door, with hazards for children the site did not match the marketing information, therefore left our group very dismayed and not what we expected given the cost. We have provided the owners with a list of issues that we identified. For the rate that is being charged in April 2022, the venue / accommodation is NOT value, it is NOT 5 star and we don't recommend.
