Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku

Highly recommend for couple. The room is very new and clean. The decoration recall me the traditional japanese ryokun in anime. The view from open air onsen is very beautiful.

Nice place. Just a little far from the trains. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

A beautiful boutique hotel with a rooftop onsen, at a great price. The room was small, so bring trunk-style luggages instead of those that open flat if possible. I could fit my trunk luggage easily into the nook below the tv. The semi-double bed is also smaller than your regular queen sized ones. While the location is great, it is a long walk from the main Shinjuku JR station, and the distance was truly felt when my feet was in pain and full of blisters from the second day on. The entire hotel was also very dusty for some reason, and it made my partner’s sinus infection act up badly. So I would recommend staying elsewhere if you’re sensitive towards dust. The onsen on the other hand, was great. Didn’t think I’d use it often but I ended up going every night. The onsen water smelled like chlorine most of the time, so don’t expect natural spring water. PS: Men’s onsen is equipped with Dyson hairdryers, but they’re not as strong as the one at home! Women’s one has a different hairdryer, but stronger and nicer than the one in the room. Staff were polite and helpful!

Other than having one of the receptionist staffs throwing a yukata at us in the lobby when asking for a junior yukata for my daughter, other staffs are helpful and friendly. That particular older lady receptionist was very rude and impatient to us on our last night at the hotel, which made our trip ended with a bad experience. The hotel facility have an onsen on the rooftop which made the hotel worth going.

Love everything about this hotel! The room makes me feel so at ease, the bed is so comfy, and the onsen experience is so amazing! Had an awesome authentic japanese breakfast too. The only downside is that it is located very far (~15-20min walk) from the shopping areas and the Shinjuku JR station. Not easy esp when carrying luggage! :(

The hotel room is unexpectedly small. We couldnt even open our luggage in the room. Other than that, the service is pretty great, the breakfast is also good. Location wise, it is about a 10 to 15 mins walk to Shinjuku station. but its a good exercise after all those food at night.

Only small complaint is the elevator being super slow and even their hotel staff sharing it too.

The ryokan is located in a very quiet and serene area of Shinjuku. Rooms are small but since we took the 20m2 room, it’s a little bigger and we had space to open 2 suitcases. The sink is located outside of the toilet, in the bedroom itself. As the plug is located right beside the sink, care has to be taken when washing to prevent electrical hazard. Some areas of the rooms were indeed dusty like what others have commented, but we were not bothered by it. Our beds were the most comfortable that we have experienced so far and the pillow is of the right softness as well. It’s was good experience for us.
