The Stables

A great set up, in a separate building. It was good to be able to come and go as I needed. A comfortable bed and good facilities. I wondered if I'd hear the road all the time, but I didn't hear it at all, and it wasn't very busy anyway. So that was great too. Really lovely and interesting walks straight from the house it'self and further afield as well. The Lime kilns etc were very interesting and the various reservoirs nearby were beautiful. The Autumn colours in the woodland and Calke Abbey Deer Park were stunning. The Staff of Life pub food was good, and reasonably priced, as was the Smisby Arms and the staff in both pubs were super helpful and kind too.

Ideal stop for me. Not easy to find, but look out for small sign above double gates with the Stables in courtyard behind. Owners are helpful and welcoming. They offered parking in the courtyard as the road outside is quite narrow and busy at times. It has a kitchenette with breakfast cereals toast milk etc. I believe in the past there was a cooked breakfast served, The shower is excellent and warm. Bed comfy. Very clean everywhere. As others have noted the phone signal is non existent but the Wifi is ok. A short 7 min walk to pleasant pub in the village and Calke Abbey is a vast National Trust estate whose entrance is 2min walk.

Good location for my work, private, quiet, spacious, parking, short walk to pub.

A spacious room with a fridge in the kitchen. More than enough tea, coffee and milk. Comfy bed, I slept like a log. Nice friendly people letting the room. Safe and secure.

Had expected a cooked breakfast based on previous reviews but shop was closed where they used to do the breakfast. Useful having a fridge and microwave. Extractor very noisy in bathroom. Very cold when I first arrived. Not as good as another B&B in the area that I use regularly. Lots of traffic all through the night despite being on a small country road.
