Tarraleah Estate

We booked 2 cottages for 2 couples However each cottage has 2 to 3 bedrooms. .so in fact we could have all fitted in One The cottages are beautiful and quaint . A fantastic 1950s look They are authentic cottages built to house the Engineers and their families working on the Hydro Electric projects in the 1940s. But.. a BIG WARNING. take food with you. There is no shops. The nearest shop is 35 km drive away. Take drinks wine and whatever snacks you may need or food you may need to prepare The highlander pub is great and had decent food but isn't open every day. The breakfast hamper that you are meant to cook yourself is Sp****. 2 eggs some bacon bread and condiments. Expensive at $20 pp. The views are fabulous. The walks beautiful and the serenity sublime. It's cold there so be prepared and use the log fires Incidentally one of the cottages had faulty Aircon and we had to move ...

We arrived expecting a humble workers cottage but were amazed to discover a sensitively restored original Art Deco home with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, full kitchen, authentic period furniture and a log fire with a whole woodshed full of logs! We had two nights here and it rained the whole time, but what did we care? We just rested, did the laundry and explored the house! This was the Electrical Engineer's home so there was also an abundance of power points!

We stayed in one of the beautifully restored cottages. Cold outside but warm, cosy and super clean inside. Our only complaint that we didn’t stay long enough… We went to visit the hairy cows and walked many kilometres both days. Admired the rainforest and saw a pair of wedgetail eagles close by
