Klein Waterval Riverside Lodge

This place is a gem. Beautiful surroundings, nice pool, lovely breakfast. It's not 5-star, but it's clean, comfortable and cosy...just how we like it. Breakfast right next to the little waterfall was so peaceful. Bridgit the manager is also a gem...so friendly and helpful.

Stayed at the Riverside Lodge for three nights this month. What a wonderful little place. Location was great, nice rooms, amazing views, as we were going for a wedding in a nearby vineyard, and we really felt we were looked after.

From the minute you get out the car on arrival, you are enveloped in calm and care. A home from home for us, with the very fondest of memories. An attention to detail not found in the bigger (and much more expensive) establishments. The hottest of freshly cooked breakfasts all made to order and wonderfully clean rooms. Even a courtesy call every evening to see if we needed anything or wanted help with bookings for dinner! Exceptional staff and customer care! In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger…’I’ll be back’ Book with total confidence (just leave us space in the booking diary please)

This place is a gem! Just outside Fanschoek so peaceful but access to all in the area within minutes. Small and intimate, the rooms are lovely but the pool area and honesty bar is what sets this place apart. One only sees the staff for breakfast (or if you need anything) - unique, but it works so well! Breakfast next to the stream was amazing and nothing was a problem for Bridgit. This is a very easy review, and yet a complicated one. Please please come and stay here. We had the best experience you could possibly have. They are exactly what they advertise, in pictures and in experience. The place is super clean and highly maintained, yet you don’t feel pompous. The staff are the most hospitable and friendly we have come across in South Africa. Our room was impeccable. Two levels. Bedroom in the upper. Front door and back door access. Everything was in perfect working condition. The pool. OMG. We went out every morning to do winery tours and visits but always came back to the pool in the afternoon. We met several friendly couples (and one horsy girl (N, we know your name) late the last night when the power went out and spent three hours chatting. It was lovely. BUT, and we can not stress this enough. We had an incident on our first day (2 blown tires) before we even got to the lodge. 16km out. All we can say is, Ezna, our hostess and greeter, and angel from above, drove out with two helpers and rescued us when our car rental company abandoned us on the side of the road ( Bluu rental, do NOT use them). Ezna drove us back when we were tired and hot and stranded. She provided welcome drinks and the most wonderful and pleasant and comfortable welcome during a period of high stress. Ezna herself is solely responsible for giving us above and beyond service during troubled times. She took care of us, lovingly, for the next three days of our stay. We truly don’t k ow what would have happened if it wasn’t for Ezna, our angel. We thank you over and over again and I do t think we will ever forget each other. Bless you and please, please come to Klein Waterval as it is stunning and full of truly caring staff (staff isn’t even a good term), maybe family.

We had a wonderful and very relaxed stay at Waterval. The room was very nice and equipped with everything. Only the bathroom was a little bit outdated. We really liked the swimming pool and the amazing view The owner offered us a room to change before we took off to the airport, which was very nice. Ezna took care of everything and made our stay more than comfortable, she is a real sweetheart.

As always it’s been a great pleasure to stay here. Sadly only two nights but we will be back in December! Rooms are great, pool is as amazing as ever and breakfast by the stream (only a trickle this time) is a timeless pleasure. It’s also perfectly situated for wine trips!!

The lodge is a small boutique like hotel with fantastic views over the surrounding countryside, vineyards and mountains. It’s about half an hour drive from Stellenbosch. The bedroom in our lodge, there are eight in total, was well appointed and airy. There is a small bar and the swimming pool is good.
