Ate at the Cross Scythes as a group last Sunday and the whole experience was disappointing. The first problem was the length of time we had to wait for someone to take our order. When the orders were taken we were told that a couple of items were not available for certain dishes, this surprised us as we had booked our meal for early in the day and not late at night. Replacements were offered but, unfortunately, it made little difference as we were not completely impressed by what was put in front of us, so much so that some of us are foregoing the deposits we have paid for Christmas dinner there after what we considered to be a well below par meal. The menu online did say that unlimited extra veg and Yorkshire puddings were available but none were offered to us at any time. We had to ask for extra gravy as the amount given was, we thought, insufficient for our meals and the size of the plates used we would consider questionable for a Sunday lunch, etc. One further thing is that when you order a £16.50 plate of food for Sunday lunch, you would expect more than one slice of meat on your plate. Finally, one other off-putting thing for us was that the Cross Scythes is dog-friendly.
