The decor and architecture of this hotel is very interesting and pleasing. The breakfast was varied and delicious. I'd recommend this hotel for both. They only serve breakfast and there is not many restaurants within walking distance. But they do have secure parking and easy enough to drive around. The only detraction was the mattresses in the rooms. They were quite hard. Otherwise the room was clean, secure and quiet. I would recommend this hotel for the price, ambience and the great breakfast.

This is a unique hotel experience somewhat like Casablanca era. The staff is very helpful and kind. The breakfast freshly made excellent there are different types of rooms. We stayed there twice at our visit. The one room towards the street had no soundproof windows and was very noisy all night. The other room was completely silent. A great experience

We loved our one-night stay and are happy we’ll be staying here one more night at the end of our vacation in Costa Rica. The quiet, elegant feeling and uncommercial ambiance is so great. Really nice staff and a lovely shower in our junior suite. Thanks!

After arriving to San Jose around 1 am, we couldn't get to the Airbnb we originally reserved and had to find a place to stay that night. We Googled places around and found this hotel, which had room for four people for only $100 USD including breakfast. The hotel has a very unique architecture and art all over the place. It felt like staying in an art museum overnight. We had a delicious full breakfast the next morning and the whole staff was very attentive throughout our stay. We'll definitely stay here the next time we're in San Jose.

THE GOOD: Great boutique hotel with very friendly front desk staff, clean and interesting rooms, nice terrace and other sitting areas. Breakfast was wonderful with fresh fruit and juice, latte coffee, and choice of eggs or omelet. There is also a workout gym ($6 daily fee), a few good restaurants and two markets within easy walking distance.
THE BAD: For some reason the maid never made up my room in the three days I was there. The first day I put the sign on the door indicating the room was available to be cleaned; nothing happened. Since both sides of the sign are red, I thought maybe the maid mistook the sign for the DO NOT DISTURB side. So the next day I did not put any sign out. Still no maid service. I did not mention it because I can do without service as a solo traveler, but I did think it unprofessional, especially since I was in a premium room.

Hotel Casa Roland is so unique! We loved exploring all of the hallways to view the collection of art. Our room, an Executive Suite, was very spacious and was priced affordably. Our bartender was very friendly and helpful. She helped us order food from a local restaurant and had it delivered to us so that we could relax at the hotel after a long day of travel. Breakfast the next morning was great! It was cooked to order, and there were several choices. We loved the hotel and hope to return.
