We loved our stay at Krone 1512. The hotel is in the shopping district of the old town. We arrived at the train station and had a taxi drop us at the hotel. The hotel is in a pedestrian zone, so no thru traffic allowed down the street they are on which was nice. The hotel rooms are a bit small, but we asked for a quiet room and they put us on the 4th floor in the back of the hotel. No air conditions, but the weather was cool and we were able to leave our window open which allowed for cool breezes to blow into the room. Our room looked out over a backyard patio and rock cliff that had trees and many birds that sang back and forth. After a long day of walking through Salzburg, it was nice to lay on the bed with the window open and relax with the fresh mountain air coming through the window. The office clerk is available from early morning till 3pm, but if you arrive after 3pm, some one will be around to check you in. The elevator is quite small, but can fit 2 people with luggage comfortably. The breakfast is an add on to the cost of your room. The breakfast was adequate, pastries, cereal, fruit, bread, meats and cheeses, you can even boil an egg. They did not offer hot foods like scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages or pancakes. They did have a multi purpose coffee machine that made all sorts of coffees and was available 24 hours a day. The hotel was nice, easy to find and was in the perfect spot for shopping and tons of restaurants. In 3 minutes you can walk across the river to more shops and restaurants and easily get to the castle and Mirabell Gardens. There are numerous churches in Salzburg and a few of them ring their bells every quarter hour with a full complement of bells being rung on the hour from 6am to 10pm, so, be prepared.
