Historic hotel that needs upgrades. Service was very good and the bar and restaurant are great. However, the room needed to be painted, the linens were dirty upon arrival, the mattress was bad, and the bathroom needed to be upgraded. It's a 2 star place.

Even though we have lived in St. Marys for 2 1/2 years, we just now enjoyed our first stay in this beautiful landmark located in the heart of 'downtown' St. Marys. Convenient and FREE parking, while check-in was a breeze. Our room, like all available rooms, was on the second floor, with a perfect view of the St. Marys wharf and river. The room was clean and very comfortable, including the bathroom. If we ever have out of town guests, I will definitely have them stay at this lovely hotel.

At check in, front desk was unable to answer any of the questions I had. I had one piece of luggage, a purse, and an umbrella. There is no elevator, no assistance was offered to assist me. I am 66 years old with arthritis. Room was presentable but bathroom floor sticky, and smelled like urine, sink had hair in it (not mine). Hurricane Debby was coming in and front desk was unable to answer any questions regarding cancellation policy so I could check out to avoid hurricane. Downtown businesses were sandbagging all doors. No manager on sight and front desk was unable to reach manager/owners by telephone for hours. Staff was scrambling and unable to make any decisions because they couldn't reach anyone for guidance. Do yourself a favor. Stay somewhere else if needing accommodations. This hotel needs new ownership and/or managers that care about their guests. Huge disappointment: this historic building could be an amazing hotel with this location. Will not stay here again and will not recommend to any of my friends that make frequent trips to St. Marys.

What a cool old hotel. It was the perfect place to stay to stage a day trip to Cumberland Island. The Cumberland Island ferry is docked right across the street. The NPS check-in is also across the street. The porch is a great place to sit in the morning and watch the sunrise over the water, and the evening for a pre-dinner beverage. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are on the second floor, no elevator. I had no sooner brought my bags into the lobby when two young staff members grabbed them and took them up to my room. So nice!! The bartender at the hotel's outside Tiki Bar was super. I was the only diner there, as a very intense thunderstorm ran off all the other bar customers. He and another awesome staff guy put up plastic rain sheets and made sure I had plenty of wine with dinner, during the storm, lol. I had a great travel experience at the Riverview Hotel, and am already planning a return trip!!

If you want a great experience, stay at this hotel. It is historical, funky, and so comfortable with the best location. The rooms and beds are super comfortable and ecclectic, clean, and you can't beat their breakfast buffet before you jump on the ferry to Cumberland Island. This is my second time staying here and I will stay here again....do yourself a favor and enjoy this place in a very funky town with a superb waterfront.

Fantastic location in a quaint historic building. The room was comfortable. It was a good value. The common spaces are nice and the views from the porch are priceless. There are two really nicely curated museums within walking distance. The Submarine Museum is next doo to the hotel. The Natural History and Wildlife Museum is about a block away. Both are worth some time. The ferry over to Cumberland island departs from directly across the street from the hotel. There is a nice restaurant off of the lobby of the hotel with lots of offerings for lunch and dinner. There are shops and restaurants near by within easy walking distance. A marina with boat launch is also nearby. A two night stay was not enough to enjoy all of the offerings. Definitely plan to return for a longer stay in the future. Would highly recommend the hotel, but be advised that there is only a staircase, no elevator, with all of the rooms on the second floor.

Great location for the ferry to Cumberland Island, and looking around St. Marys. Friendly staff and interesting decor in the place. Attached restaurant is a plus and the shrimp and grits are excellent.

We booked here because it is a historic building and conveniently across the street from the ferry that takes you to Cumberland Island. Upon checkin we were Not Greeted. The lady at the desk was very Unhelpful. Her top priority was to immediately charge my card without asking if it was how I wanted to pay. It wasn’t, of course. The Manager does not arrive until 3 pm, so she is what you get. I had several questions, and it was like trying to break open a bank to get answers. One of the questions was about the sack lunch offered. She failed to tell me that you are supposed to put in an order as apparently they make the lunches the night before. I found this out when she decided to tell me the next morning when I told her I wanted to purchase 2. Don’t expect any helpful information even when you try to ask. The other question I had was about the parking. There is parallel parking that accommodates about 4 vehicles on the street in front of the hotel. Never did she say that we could park anywhere else such as the parking lot across the street from the welcome center down the road. Once you get “welcomed” and “checked in”, you carry your bags up 2 sets of stairs that are poorly lit and the dark carpet makes it even harder to see your steps. We were placed in room #1 “Torpedoes” room. The doors to each room are made of wood. There is no deadbolt and no inside latch. There is a single wobbly knob with a keyhole on the outside of the room and it automatically “locks” from the inside. The wood around the doorknob is so old that a simple hard kick would have busted the door in. Once inside the room, I noticed how the old hardwood flooring had been “sanded” except around the furniture where you could still see old varnish or sealant. On the door frame itself, there was something I couldn’t even identify smeared all over it that was brown in color smeared from someone’s hand. On the ceiling over the bed, there was a dark spot larger than a baseball appearing to be possibly a leak, and on the wall, there was some sort of really dark brown drip going down the wall about 9 inches. BE AWARE, there is live music downstairs that plays all night and you will not be able to sleep at all, and when the music finally ends, the doors slam loudly open and closed throughout the rest of your “sleep”. The breakfast area is downstairs right next to the checkin. In this area is an antique couch and antique wooden wall units of which looked as though they had not been cleaned or polished in a very very long time. The motivation from any of the staff to make this place a respectful environment was obviously long gone.

Great stay. Right in front of the ferry for Cumberland Island. Very comfortable and clean rooms. The building is very well maintained, and has a terrace with a great view to the river. St. Marys is a very lovely town. If your plan is for the beach, Fernandina Beach, in Amelia Island, is 20 min drive. We really enjoyed our stay at this location.

The staff of the hotel were friendly and very helpful. The room was great. We stayed in the St. Mary's room with a view of the river. The bed and pillows were comfy. The room was very clean and well decorated. We also got the lunch to take to Cumberland Island on the morning we left. It was good and plenty of food. We would recommend this hotel unless you need an elevator. Wonderful waterfront park about 1 block away.

We stayed July 2022 and July 2023 for one night prior to boarding the ferry for Cumberland Island. We liked the location of our room better last year, but prices have increased significantly since last year so we chose a different one. During this stay we were in Room 18, St. Mary’s Little Theater. Our only issues with the room was the amount of light coming through during the night and the bedside table needed to be dusted better. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and thought the room and bathroom were both nice. The bathroom is huge and the shower had good water pressure. I appreciated the place to sit my toiletry bag since there was no actual counter space. We stayed on a Sunday night and it was very quiet. We are bagels and coffee downstairs the next morning before boarding the ferry. The man who was working that morning was very nice and friendly.

We were greeted upon check-in and the clerk was very pleasant and informative as we asked questions. The room was exactly as expected...an old nostalgic feel, very comfortable and clean. We went to the open-air Saloon to listen to the band and enjoyed dinner as well. Want to enjoy a cocktail in a very quiet setting? Go through the telephone booth to the "Speakeasy." There is also a Tiki bar. Besides the restaurant, the Riverview hotel kitchen serves the indoor bar, Saloon and the "Speakeasy." The food was excellent and I highly recommend. All this is situated in a picturesque part of St Marys with a few quaint shops, the Howard Gilman waterfront park and other eating establishments all within an easy walking distance. The Cumberland Island Ferry and National Park visitor center is located conveniently across the street. You can order a bag lunch for your Cumberland Island adventure at the front desk but please do this the night before your trip. I would definitely come back and stay at the Riverview Hotel again. If you enjoy historical hotels, give this one a try. It always pays to do your homework before you travel to a new location.

A beautiful old hotel with old fashioned service! Stayed here the night before a Cumberland island trip. Super convenient with saloon and restaurant right next door. The hotel also offered a sack lunch that we picked up in the morning before boarding the ferry. Highly recommend!

Check in was easy. The room was ok since it is a classic building. The restaurant was great with wonderful food and excellent service. After dinner the noise from the bar was so loud that it seemed like the guitarist and singers were in the room. Breakfast was a packaged bagel
