Just needed a hotel for an overnight stay between landing at SMF late at night and driving out in the morning to Yosemite. I didn’t want to stay in downtown/midtown, but wanted to have easy access to it. Also wanted convenient access to good shopping, which Arden definitely has. Got a good price for this hotel considering my booking was last minute (within 24 hours of arrival). I’m not from Sacramento, so I couldn’t get a good read on how safe this area is. On one hand, it’s definitely heavily commercial with many shopping centers and chain restaurants. On the other, there definitely appeared to be some “sketchy” pockets here and there. It could just have just been my hypervigilance as a father. Nothing even remotely dangerous happened when I was exploring the area at night. I do like how the hotel is “interior” with secure access at night which definitely sets it apart from your standard motel The staff was definitely the standout for me. My experience with every member of the staff was positive from the front desk to the breakfast attendant to the housekeeper. The rooms were small and basic, but adequate. Didn’t care for the high beds because I have 2 young kids. I did appreciate the coffee maker, mini-fridge, and microwave though. The breakfast was good with both hot and cold items: sausage, eggs, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, cereal, pastries, coffee, and juice. It was perfect for a quick bite before hitting the road. I was let down that the WiFi happened to be down when I stayed. Couldn’t be helped, but I actually really needed it that night. I was able to get by with my iPhone hotspot, but that truly set me back.
