I made our reservation directly with the hotel on Nov 30, nearly 4 months in advance. I requested the room I had the last visit a few years ago. We arrived prior to the normal check in time. When we did so, the receptionists were not friendly, would not tell me if the room I wanted would be available, and were even hesitant to let us use the bathroom (which they had to discuss first). They did check our bags and off we went for an afternoon of touring, returning to the hotel around 6 pm. When we got back and checked in, we found our room was not the one requested....it was a very small room in the back of the hotel with the worst views. When I went down to complain I was told nothing could be done because the hotel was fully booked and there were no other rooms available. I asked how it was possible that someone who was a returning guest who made a reservation 4 months ago could get the "last room available" and why my request was not honored. All I got was "I'm sorry, nothing can be done, and beside the room I wanted was a different category." I asked why no one from the hotel told me that in advance or even the day of check in. No answer received. Our category was a "superior twin room." I guess my thought of superior does not match the tiny room with barely enough distance between the bed and wall to get around. As for amenities, there are none except for breakfast. While the website shows a lovely breakfast buffet (which they used to have), now you have to order your breakfast online the day before for a specific time slot. We had some amazing breakfasts in the hotels in Lisbon and other cities; the breakfast here was not very appetizing. The only plus was on the morning of check out the substitute night clerk was totally responsive in getting our taxi to the airport. I won't stay here again.
