I am a resident of the area who was recently displaced due to a house fire. I booked for one night through ******* and prepaid the reservation. Unfortunately, when I went to check in I was told that as a resident of the area, I was required to provide a $250 cash deposit and refused to accept a credit or debit card. I’d already pre-paid for a single night stay, so I stood there for a minute perplexed.
While I suppose I could have left the hotel and gone to an A**, it made uncomfortable and I no longer felt safe staying there. I felt like I was being scammed. Allowing to prepay for a room and when you arrive at check in (beyond the cancellation window), if you don’t have access to cash, you won’t be able to check in and won’t get a refund. Luckily, I did purchase $4 travel insurance through *******, and was able to get my money back due to this inaccurate (or omission of) information on the listing. If you are from the area, be advised. The staff said that they have had this policy in place for at least 5 years.
