Blanco Beach Bar Hostel

We booked a 2-night stay at Blanco Beach Bar Hostel and were shocked by how poorly things were handled from the moment we arrived. Despite booking consecutive nights, we were informed that we’d have to check out at 11am on the first day and not check into a new room until 2pm. When I questioned how this was acceptable when booking two nights together, the staff were unhelpful and dismissive. Eventually, they offered a slightly better option of checking out at 12pm and into the new room straight after—but we had a boat tour booked, so this still didn’t work for us. To make matters worse, we were told we had to hand over our passports for the duration of our stay. We felt extremely uncomfortable with this and explained that under Thai law, a copy is sufficient. The staff refused to accommodate this and said we couldn’t stay without surrendering our documents. At that point, we decided to leave—but were told we would still charged because we hadn’t given 24 hours’ notice, even though they hadn’t given us any notice about the room change. As if all that wasn’t bad enough, later that night we bumped into a member of staff (an Irish girl from reception) while out for drinks, and she approached us just to say she thought we were “fierce c*nts” for how we handled the situation. Absolutely appalling behavior from someone representing the hostel. This was one of the most unprofessional and uncomfortable experiences I’ve had while traveling. I would not recommend staying here, especially if you expect basic courtesy or respectful treatment from staff.

The hostel was in a nice word horrific, there was bed bugs, rude staff and people in the shared rooms had no basic manners. We were four girls sharing in a 8 bed room and a man banged on our door all night, the staff let him into our room to which he then threw up, sprinted out of the room leaving the door open and cats entering our room. We told the staff politely about the bed bugs to which they basically implied that we had bitten ourselves. Would not recommend to my worst enemy. Terrible music was played till 2 am which shook our beds.

Blancos is a party hostel with very poor hygiene. The lockers in our room were destroyed and kicked in. Thankfully nothing was stolen. The plus side staff were helpful and offered a full refund. I do recommend the boat party blancos offers, best on the island! If you don’t mind dirty showers and run down bedrooms at expense for the party lifestyle blancos is for you.

It’s good location is about the only thing it has going for it. Other than that, the hygiene levels of this hostel are well below par. The cleanliness of the toilets/showers aren’t up to the right standards, increasing the risk of spreading illness amongst guests. Of the 7 friends I stayed here with, 6 got seriously unwell. The same was the case for many other guests at the hostel. Can’t slate it completely as the location and vibe in the evenings are great but please be very aware of the serious risk of becoming unwell during your stay.

The staff is really helpful, the moment you get there you feel like you surrounded by family. If you like to drink and party, meet some good people. That’s your place!!! Really recommend for backpackers ❤️

We had a horrible experience staying at Blancos. It is a party hostel which is what we were looking for so you accept that it will be loud and Sandy however it doesn’t excuse for how dirty the place is. The shower room was falling apart with no hook for the shower head or for towels etc. I woke up in the night to a centipede in my bed and when we complained to the staff they were rude and unhelpful. We checked out early and were still made to pay for the additional night (they hold your passport so we had no choice) It is also way overpriced, there are other hostels on the island charging the same that are 100x nicer. Wouldn’t recommend choosing this one.
