Merchants Manor Spa

We have stayed many times at Merchants Manor and return because we love it. My partner has dementia and didn’t feel very well but the staff welcomed us warmly and personally ( particularly Simon) and were so kind and thoughtful , we really appreciated the room upgrade after a difficult journey and enjoyed the size of the room and balcony. I’m glad that the tea coffee facilities have been restored in the rooms and these were replenished each day . We like the friendliness of this hotel , the excellent breakfast and also the location. This time we arrived by train and could walk to the town and the beach or use the town circular bus , we also visited the gardens at Glendurgan and Trebah by bus from Falmouth and they were wonderful gardens . I also love the pool and it was a treat to swim every day , particularly one morning when it was very rainy outside. Falmouth is a lovely town to visit and Merchants Manor the perfect place to stay and after our 5 day stay we both felt relaxed. Things to improve ? A hot bar menu for evenings you don’t want to go out to eat would be nice . Looking forward to our next visit 😊

Lovely two night stay. Friendly and attentive staff, excellent breakfast, comfortable stay would definitely stay again. Rooms good size and pleasantly decorated. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk from the heart of Falmouth and we found it very easy to find our way there.

4 stars for what? Not impressed at all after paying quite a lot for 3 nights. The state of the room was the biggest disappointment: not clean, dated, not maintained, a bush in front of the window instead of the courtyard view I paid for. There was grime and limescale in the bathroom, it is unacceptable. Cobwebs in a few places, rusted bathroom accessories (that wasn’t part of the design), dirty carpets. Unfortunately there was no staff around to raise those issues. The check in is automated and that’s it, you’re on your own. The spa was included but the spa was basically a swimming pool as the sauna and the jacuzzi were out of order. In addition to that, the sauna was also open to public, and at some point there were about 6-7 lads in the area that didn’t really look like they were there for the spa, they took over the swimming pool and made a mess in the locker room which put me off and left straight away. Again, no staff were present to raise the issue. Not recommended at all.

Thank you again for a beautiful stay again and been totally spoilt by your wonderful staff. Our room upgrade was amazing we had a beautiful seating area to relax in overlooking the beautiful bay. Breakfast was well cooked and plentiful we started our day off with full stomachs .

This was our second visit and the staff all looked after us once again! Everyone was friendly and welcoming and the hotel was immaculately clean! The host was super chatty, and the barman happy to recommend drinks! We visited for my partners birthday and so had amazing spa treatments too! There’s always a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere at Merchants Manor, with the lounge area being a favourite of ours! Finishing the trip off with a morning swim and delicious breakfast. We can’t wait for our third visit already!

Max in the bar and the young ladies who work with him and also serve at breakfast were all a delight. We think we met the owner/manager on a number of occasions, he did not acknowledge us or any other guest that we noticed. We like other guests we spoke with, were very disappointed that you no longer serve evening meals, small plates just don’t do it. To add insult to our disappointment you had a group of 40 in on Saturday evening who were all treated to a three course dinner. The standard of our room no. 47 was again disappointing, big comfy, the bed certainly was but the facilities in the room and the general condition of the bathroom don’t really live up to the cost, and a balcony looking at nothing. This room also sits directly above the indoor swimming pool, so you effectively have under floor heating all year round, the room was extremely warm and we didn’t experience very good weather during our visit.

I have read the reviews on this hotel. First of all it is located a good half mile uphill from the square in Falmouth. It is located in a quiet part of town which was good. Overall the location is good. What definitely is not good is the check in. I have read the reviews but wanted to check out the experience. To say it was soulless and very unwelcoming is an underestimate. In the age of AI it would be great if somebody could greet us. While the process was unproblematic, after a long journey it would have been great when somebody cared after our long day. Instead in trying to find our room, we were met by one of the cleaning staff who might as well have been a robot. She gave a fake grain and did not help us to our room. We found it no thanks to anybody from the hotel. I went for a drink and when I was actually going into what I thought was the bar, I was told curtly by a guy with a moustache that this was the wrong entrance. Sorry if I made a very obvious mistake! I met the guy the next morning in the gym and he did not even bother saying hello. I think he may be the manager but really, he should not be in the industry if he acts like that. Also I had a voucher for 2 drinks for £10. A service fee was put on top of that. Why does the system want me to add a tip on that when it is definitely not deserved? The hotel is beautiful both inside and outside. The swimming pool is small (12m) but I had a good swim and it is beautifully kept. It is a pity the sauna was having problems. The room was lovely and we had a good nights sleep. The power shower was brilliant so no problems there! Breakfast was excellent. It was very fresh and the coffee tasted super. The service thankfully was better but I can't stop thinking that the staff are going through the motions in this hotel. Unfortunately, check out summed up my experience with the hotel. Lovely hotel ruined by the lack of personal genuine touch. I won't be back.

I am currently staying at this hotel, and while it has some positive aspects, such as clean and spacious rooms, my overall experience has been quite disappointing. First and foremost, the room was uncomfortably hot, making it difficult to relax or sleep. I requested a fan to alleviate the heat, only to be told, "We don't really have any fans." This was surprising and frustrating, especially given the cost of the room. This evening, I encountered an issue that required contacting reception around 9 PM. To my surprise, no one answered the phone. After getting dressed and going down to the reception area, I discovered that there isn't an actual reception desk at this hotel. Instead, I had to speak to the bar manager, who was extremely rude and unhelpful. When I asked why no one was answering the phone, I was informed that their phones are only manned during daytime hours. This is shocking, as it raises serious concerns about what guests are supposed to do in case of an emergency. When I questioned this, the manager's dismissive response was, "And what emergency would that be?" His lack of empathy and arrogance was appalling. Furthermore, the hotel advertises itself as a five-star establishment, but it falls far short of this rating. There is no proper restaurant on-site, only a service offering small cold plates, which are overpriced and not clearly mentioned during booking. As a solo female traveler, I found it inconvenient and unsettling to have to leave the hotel each evening to find somewhere to eat. Overall, I am extremely disappointed with my stay. For the high price, I expected much more in terms of service, comfort, and amenities. With two more nights to go, I’m dreading the rest of my stay and can't wait to return home. I would not recommend this hotel, especially if you value responsive service and a comfortable stay. On a positive note, there is a member of staff named Simon, who was very helpful when I checked in and knowledgable on the area, Unfortunately he was not around to talk to this evening.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The breakfast was exceptional, with a wide variety of options to choose from, including fresh fruit and juices, freshly baked pastries and bread, and lots of delicious cooked options including the Manor Muffin which we loved! The pool area was fantastic – clean, spacious, and perfect for a relaxing swim after a busy day. My husband also had a massage which he said was wonderful. But what really stood out was the service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable stay. Everyone was so friendly, attentive, and genuinely interested in making our experience memorable. I highly recommend this hotel and we are looking forward to staying here again!
