Lord Haldon Country Hotel,Sure Hotel Collection B

On arrival at the Hotel, you will find it set in beautiful gardens with stunning views with plenty of parking. We arrived at reception to check in at 2pm, and the reception informed us that our room was not ready as check in wasn't until 3pm, we showed her on the site that we booked it clearly stated 2pm so we were shown to a lounge area and waited nearly an hour then for the room to be ready. The room was nice and spacious but really could do with some tlc, there were areas of damp and some of the wall paper is peeling away from the walls. There were tea & coffee with some biscuits provided. The bathroom looks like it has been recently refurbished so was nice and modern. In the bedroom straight away we noticed quite a few spiders all on the ceiling, and when checking the information folder for the room found a dirty tissue in the folder, but the bed was comfortable with spare pillow and blanket in the wardrobe with also a fan too. We went down for evening meal and was shown to our table, the menu has limited choices and also some vegetarian choices too which was nice to see, we ordered and the meal did come quite quickly and was very hot, we ordered a side of bhajis to go with the curry and these were cremated and when cutting in to them they were raw on the inside and cold, nobody came to check on us after we had been served the food so at the end of the meal we told the server and was just told that she would tell the chef, no apology. We retired to the room and but when it came to settling, there were table and chairs right out side our window and people were sat there till late chatting and laughing which the hotel couldn't help but if you want to settle early may need to ask for a room not looking out over the gardens. We had a early start as the fire alarm went off and the hotel had to be evacuated at 6.50 in the morning, so an early breakfast for us, which was ok but nobody checked on making sure the pastries etc were replenished and people had to keep asking for things to be topped up or replenished. Our stay was ok but dont think we will return.

beautiful setting when you get there but approach road is tight in one direction and impassable from the other ( which sat nav chose ) one staff member was friendly and approachable one was not, our room was lovely with fabulous views the bed was very comfortable and the whole place is very quiet. breakfast was a good mix of buffet items with hot food cooked to order and very good. lots of parking - if you need to use the EV hook up pack your 3 pin cable.

This is my goto place in Exeter. It is very peaceful and the staff are really friendly and will do everything they can to help guests. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Lovely place, Very comfortable. Quiet. Never heard a sound. Took wife with me and she was watching the wildlife and birdlife all day! Service not great but that was due to lack of customers.

Excellent standard of food and cleanliness, very comfortable bed and beautiful surroundings. Staff were very helpful.

Plus points were a quiet location,great views,decent beer options,nice bacon and sausage Minus points were no one at checking for a while,squeaky floorboards outside room with a gap under door,dust all over room,dead bugs squashed on woodwork,smoke from smokers coming up into room through open window,tatty bed base,stained walls,slow to get cooked breakfast,no full fat milk,coffee was awful,cider was flat when should be sparkling and bar smelt of vinegar. Thankfully only paid £40 after using clubcard vouchers so didn't complain.

I was doing a mini pilgrimage walk with my friend. We hadn't booked as we didn't know if we were going to be that far into our walk. The lady on reception (she was also the Events coordinator) was so very helpful, friendly and welcoming. She even gave us a wave the following day, from her car as we were walking off down the road. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely room, dual aspect windows, beautiful view. Very nice, just what we needed.

Friendly and helpful staff, good prices, decent menu, food was good with good sized portions, breakfast was well laid out and generous, good sized rooms with all the expected facilities. However the hotel is a bit 'tired' and is in need of a refurb in the rooms. The location is in the sticks, with quite narrow lanes to get to it but the views around the Hotel are fantastic.

We had a wonderful long weekend stay there, staff were friendly, and the food was excellent and we really enjoyed our breakfast. The bedroom was a good size, well worth the drive, but don`t follow the sat nav as this takes you down a very narrow road, just follow the road past Haldon forest park.
