Hofsas House Hotel

It was a nice hotel the pool is heated. The breakfast says continental but it really just pastries, fruit and juice but it was good still. Be aware there is no microwave at least not in the room we got and the doors use old fashioned keys instead of key cards and have to locked by pushing the button on the inside when leaving a mistake we didn't realize till later. Otherwise its a nice hotel and a short walk into town.

It is a charming looking building with parking at the rear. Because it has grown through extensions, there are numerous parts of the building with different entrances. The room was very spacious and the decor, floral and reminiscent of an earlier era. Please note that there is no elevator. We had to carry our cases up two flights of stairs. There was breakfast consisting of coffee, fresh fruit, yogurts and individually wrapped fresh pastries. Please note that other than a sofa and two arm chairs in the reception area, there is nowhere to eat the breakfast. You can eat in your room or in your car. Perhaps this is normal in the US. I am used to European hotels where there is a dining area.

Great Inn, fabulous location, super friendly staff and best of all they take dogs. We have stayed here many times and we love it. Our Beagle loves going there every year and loves going to carmel beach and all the dog friendly restaurants and shops.

I enjoyed the stay. It is a quaint location with comfortable rooms. I loved the Dutch door so you could get fresh air in your room and look at the pool and trees. It does have steps, so if you are more challenged and need an elevator, this may not be your spot. It was walking distance to Carmel Beach and downtown, but far enough away, so not in a heavy traffic zone. There is a small heated pool, but I was still able to get a swim in, just with more turns. The shower was small but did the job. There is a Continental breakfast that was comprised of your choice of pastries, yogurt, fruit, o.j. and a choice of tea or coffee. You receive a tray to take to your room, which the hotel picks up.

There are MANY cute Inns & Hotels in Carmel by the Sea. There are not any "new" major chains. That is one of the quaint things about the town - no chain restaurants or hotels. We chose the Hofsas based on family recommendation. My wife and I reserved a King Room with a "territorial view". We also reserved a "family suite" with a small kitchen for our Adult kids and their partners. We stayed 3 nights in early February 2024 while visiting for a family wedding. I was happily surprised to find that our King room's private deck with 2 chairs gave us a glimpse gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean in the distance. The family suite had no view (on the first level), but was very spacious, with 2 bathrooms, a bedroom with a King Bed and a studio with 2 queen beds and a kitchen combined. The free breakfast is limited - but works as a starter: fresh fruit, yogurt and pastries + a small or large carafe of coffee, and a glass of orange juice. (I prefer this kind of continental to have really bad scrambled eggs and low quality bacon). The rooms show their age for sure, but the prices reflect that, and the rooms are clean and beds comfortable. The views from the 3rd and 4th floors are awesome, and most rooms seem to have a private deck. Excellent maid/cleaning service. Everyone we encountered was super friendly and helpful. Yes you may hear your neighbors - pick the 4th floor if you want to avoid having anyone directly over you. We fortunately did not have loud neighbors during our visit.

The Hofsas Hotel is nice and cozy. Great location & friendly customer service. Our room was spacious. We loved the mini kitchen in our room! The continental breakfast was an added bonus. Our room was on the third floor which provided us with a nice view of the ocean. We would definitely stay here again!
