In my opinion this hotel is Merced's finest. It is beautifully decorated and conveniently located. The rooms are very clean, and majority of the staff was very nice. I found the female desk staff to be unfriendly and not very helpful. However, the male staff members were extremely helpful and had a great attitude. The Seabird restaurant is excellent and the cafe off the lobby is very convenient.

I never write hotel reviews and stay in too many of them for work. This place is fantastic and I hope to be back soon

My daughter attends UC Merced and we’ve stayed at several hotels in the area. This is my first time staying at El Capitan and it is going to be my go-to from here on out. I loved it. It was clean and comfortable and everyone was really nice. The decor in our room was beautiful, to the point that I took pictures to show family. We ate dinner next door at The Mainzer and then breakfast at Rainbird (downstairs in the hotel) and I was incredibly impressed with both prices and quality (all locally sourced.) Super adorable co-op art gallery in the same block (the Mac) and saw a community theater production at the same location. The show was an incredible community theater production. I will definitely choose El Capitan on all future stays. Valet parking was super convenient and easy.

This hotel is beautiful. It has a lot of nice areas in the downstairs for sitting and enjoying. The restaurant is good. The staff are all very nice, and tremendously helpful. The rooms are pretty with comfy beds and a wonderful huge bathroom and shower. The whole experience was very luxurious.

We love the el captain. Great li action for walking around downtown. Dining options are great. Comfy beds and pillows. Best place for the price in Merced

This is a very nice hotel. Would have given it 5 stars all the way around if it had a microwave and additional chair in the room. We will stay there again.

I was skeptical what a boutique hotel or upscale hotel would be like in downtown Merced. This hotel exceeded expectations.
Parking choices are valet or street parking. However, it’s only 15$ a day for valet. Your car to be parked in a secure facility. Having peace of mind was worth it.
Social areas and eateries on the main floor are fantastic and very stylish. I wish I had more time to linger. Morning lattes in Native have me wanting to stay in and savor the experience. There are also great restaurants nearby.
We look forward to staying here for future Merced visits.

In General we liked this hotel BUT the parking situation is pretty bad unless you want to pony up $15 per day for parking. They devote a large number of parking spots for Valet but less than half are used from what we observe while we have to fight for the few free parking spots. This added unneeded stress to our stay.
