Otentic, Eco Tent Experience

This was probably the best camping experience I've had kind of like Appartements has a campfire ,a pool room ,and a volley /badminton place behind the kitchen along with a little terrace and a swimming pool the food is authentic cuisine of Mauritius and is a good place not to use electronic devices and interact with nature 😄😑 went with my colleges had a good time !!!

The atmosphere is really serene, cosy in the common space. Everyone is trusting everyone, this is a positive touch in our current world. The kitchen staff is really nice, helpful and went the extra mile to accommodate my dietary requirements. Several activities are provided for free: canoe, archery, … this is really another nice touch. As an engineer I found the tents well organised, well thought through, except maybe the bathroom that is open and, consequently, quite infested by mosquitoes. The tents are on the small side if you are more than 2. We initially booked 4 nights but left after only one night since it was too noisy for us: the road traffic is really heavy and so noisy. YEs there are many strayed dogs in Mauritius, but the compound has several dogs that answer to the calls of the passing dogs. Consequently, several time during the night you will be awaken by O’Tentic’s dogs. I was also surprised that they did not help us with our luggage while the property is really steep, going down toward the river. If you are fussy about hygiene,I’ll let you judge….. Overall a very interesting experience, and I wish them success, they deserve it!

Otentic is such a relaxed and fun place! My husband and I only managed to stay for one night which wasn't really enough time to fully immerse ourselves in the atmosphere, so we'd definitely recommend 2 or 3 nights. We loved kayaking to the waterfall and seeing the monkeys, playing darts whilst drinking beer (my husband was happy as it's craft beer) and just generally chilling out. The lunch was THE best food we had across the whole island for two weeks, everything is really fresh. The serve yourself bar is also very fun. The tents are really comfortable and we were surprised there were no critters inside! A main disappointment was that it's not a full escape into nature because you can hear the road and our tent was right next to an apartment block. I had read other reviews saying this but I thought they were just being picky, but having been there I do now agree. Don't let this stop you from going, because it really is a great experience, just be aware that you're not surrounded by nature, (apart from the amazing river of course) Some additional advice is to do this experience near the start of your holiday before heading into more luxurious accommodation (if you're planning to), we ended up doing it the other way round and was a bit of a shock to the system at first! I think this is why you need a minimum of two nights really, it takes one night to understand what the place is about and relax into it. And when you do relax, you won't want to leave!
