Having been fortunate enough to stay at the Oberoi Beach Resort, Mauritius, a number of times in recent years, we decided that it would be the only place that we would wish to celebrate our 50 th Wedding Anniversary. We were met at the airport by one of the hotel’s own chauffeurs, safely driven to the resort in a hotel limousine, and the holiday began. Arriving at the beautiful manicured grounds, really like a sub tropical botanical garden, we were met in the early hours of the morning by a number of staff, including the resort, executive rooms division manager, Natacha, with the warmth and friendliness befitting a family member, more than a repeat guest. Our private luxury villa with its own pool, was where check in took place. Our welcome was accompanied by a complimentary bottle of champagne, a laid out continental breakfast, and the room adorned, in a charming way. The pool temperature had been enhanced and very inviting after our long travel period from the U.K. We had 13 nights in resort, and on this trip did not venture out for sightseeing, as we have done in the past. What sets this resort apart from many other establishments, worldwide, is a combination of many factors that come together, making any guest feel special. All the staff will ensure that you are well looked after, with a professional, attentive and friendly style, where, they will endeavour to anticipate your needs. The managers, ensure a smooth service, regardless of which department they belong to, and ensure service staff work in harmony. The chefs are excellent, the quality of the produce and innovative way that dishes are prepared are of the highest calibre. Special requests for meals, not advertised on the extensive menus can often be prepared on request, and we took advantage of this for a number of meals, and special treats. We were not the only guests celebrating in some fashion, as was obvious seeing them in resort or at mealtimes, they were obviously enjoying themselves at this special place too. The facilities and the welcome to all holiday makers is apparent, families with young children, or babes in arms are welcomed, the staff love engaging with the children at mealtimes, and can often be seen spending some time with the children allowing their parents some respite, to spend at least sometime enjoying their meals. Our Anniversary day was very special, champagne and strawberries served before breakfast to our villa in a basket, that could be floated in our swimming pool, followed by a greeting from all staff we encountered, who had obviously been apprised of the fact it was a special anniversary day for us. The hotel management provided us with a beautiful bouquet of 50 red roses, the housekeeping team had decorated our villa with congratulatory adornments, and flower petals strewn across the bedding, and later a personalised cake was delivered to us. Our villa was kept spotless by the various housekeeping teams twice daily, and the pool was attended to daily.
