An idyllic gem that elicits a feeling of nostalgia when you walk through the door. I happened by the Walpole Bay Hotel during a day off and ordered a cream tea; when it arrived I was astounded by the amount and the quality. After I had finished I decided to visit the museum, which I was expecting to be situated in a separate part of the building, but it wasn't, instead, the Hotel and the museum are one and the same. Everywhere you look there is something to remind you of a bygone era, from the time of World War I to the Art Deco period. The staff resembled a chapter from history where the customer was made to feel valued and important and the owner, Jane, showed me around the rest of the Hotel and piqued my interest with anecdotes of visiting celebrities and the building's history. To summarise, this was my first visit to the Hotel and I was made to feel like a guest, except I wasn't, I only went inside for a cream tea. Thank you, Jane and all the staff. David
