Hotel Madrid Gran Via 25 Affiliated by Meliá

The hotel is situated in an excellent location and the staff is friendly and accommodating however, the hotel is an Etap-like hotel not deserving the Melia affiliation and the building is outdated. I visited with my parents who were transferred to three different rooms in our 4-night stay due to issues with the rooms. At the front desk, Laura, Pablo and Carlos were very helpful in trying to remedy the situations that arose, nevertheless, there is so much they can do if the place is outdated or not suitable. For instance, upon arrival, the size of the room was too small (a shoe box with a bathroom), not even a coffee machine in the room or ice available in the hotel. Then, the A/C was busted so they sent two fans so they could sleep, and finally, on the last night we went out for the day and when we came back late at night the room was not serviced and the A/C was still not fixed. Another observation is the breakfast buffet. They offer a 10 Euro deal per day only if you choose it on the day of arrival, otherwise is 16 Euro/pp. From what I saw, it was not worth it, you can eat for less outside in one of the multiple cafes and tapas places all around. They offered fruit, yoghurt, sandwich meat (not Spanish-cured hams) and cheese (nothing special), pastries, scrambled eggs, and veggies (no eggs to order available). So a very basic buffet and not the Melia standard you would expect. Better go to the McDonald's next door and order breakfast for 3 Euros, or go to the famous Churreria San Gines only 9 min. walk, or the San Miguel market or any tapa bar ;) If you are looking for a basic place just to leave your stuff and come to sleep look for a hotel that matches the price of the offering services. If you are looking for a brand name, the Hilton is next door and has all the amenities you would expect for the brand including a terrace, restaurant, and a pool ;) I hope this review helps you and you enjoy your visit to Madrid :)

Overall, I would say that I liked my stay at the hotel. The hotel is generally basic and slightly outdated. At some point, they will definitely need to remodel it, but I must point out that the entire hotel was very clean. My check-in was fast and smooth, and the front desk staff were nice. I booked a Standard Room With Views and got one on the 5th floor (#518). My view was of Gran Vía Street, which was great. Luckily, being on a higher floor helped me avoid most of the noise; I only heard slight noises from cars. However, if your room is on a lower floor facing Gran Vía Street, noise could be a big problem because the windows are not well soundproofed. My room was big enough for one person. I felt comfortable there. Its design was very simple, the furniture was in good condition, but the walls had scratches and dirty marks. Unfortunately, there was no refrigerator in my room, which is a big minus. The TV was very small and outdated. The bed was somewhat comfortable, and I did not like the pillows much. The bathroom design was pretty, and its size was adequate. Having a bathtub was a big plus. The bathroom amenities were of okay quality, although I did not like their smell much. Wi-Fi was slow in my room; the roaming on my phone gave faster Internet speed. The last thing I need to mention is the hotel’s location, which is perfect! The hotel is a block away from Gran Vía metro station in the heart of Madrid. All the major Madrid sights are nearby and walkable. There are many shops, restaurants, and other types of businesses close to the hotel. For my stay, I paid €124 per night (plus, I used some points from my Meliá Rewards account), and I find this deal overpriced for the very basic quality of the Standard Room. I go to Madrid every year, and I am well-informed about hotel prices in town after staying in many different hotels. I believe that the reasonable price for a Standard Room at this Meliá Hotel should not be more than €80 per night. Anyway, I can recommend this hotel for a short stay in Madrid, especially if your major goal is to be in the heart of town and you do not care much about the hotel’s luxury conditions.

Good hotel with a good location. The room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was excellent and very clean too. The staff were friendly. The breakfast they do was good with lots of choice. There is space to hold your bags during the day if you have already checked out. Lots of transport links right outside the door too.

The only good things about this hotel is the location and a decent breakfast. Other than that it is all awful! Coming in the front doors you’re instantly greeted with a pleasant view, but once you hit the rooms it just goes down hill. It seems as if they forgot to revamp the rooms like they did the common areas. The once white (now yellow) hair dryers are old relics from the 90s that barely blow. There was blood on the floor and robe. The door framing was rusted. The first night someone came into our room around 10. By the time I got up and got dressed to see who it was they were gone. The ac wouldn’t turn on and we called downstairs. Their solution was to bring up 2 fans. It did no good. We stayed in this room for 2 nights before we requested to change. As we were entering our new room we encountered a gentleman in the hall who told us good luck with the ac. He was being moved because his didn’t work either. Needless to say we spent the rest of our time at this place sweltering. I’m surprised Meliá is even associated with this place. It should be labeled a hostel and not a hotel. $1500 thrown down the drain at this place. Never again!!!!!!

If you like crowds then this hotel is perfect for you. It sits on Madrid’s Gran Via which flows like a salmon run most of the day and night. Weekends are the worst. As for the hotel, it is an overpriced, modest affair. Check the photos of the rooms. Mine had all the appeal of a monk’s chamber. The amities are rudimentary. Be wary of the bathtub. It had no safety features and I slipped taking a shower and nearly fell. The breakfast was acceptable for the price. The hotel has no restaurant.

The hotel staff was great! The hotel is located in a wonderful area close to all. The breakfast was good. Basically same breakfast every day. Not too kid friendly. Would suggest adding a waffle maker. The only thing I did not enjoy from our stay is that they control the A/C. It was still winter, temps were in the 40s F but they had the heaters on all day even when Temps were in the 50s. It felt like 90F. Their solution to freshen the room was turn off air, open windows or they bring a fan. You actually need both. I heard many hotels do this, but at least put the heater at room temperature of 75F. Some rooms are pretty small compared to others. The tubs are also high. I fell to the floor hard coming out because I had to somewhat climb out. I am not a very tall person. There is no bar to help you get out. The doors are glass and you have to be careful. Some rooms have the door stopper right in the middle of the floor, so if you forget its there, coming out of the bath is quite dangerous and you could easily trip. The bed’s were a bit on the hard side and a bit uncomfortable. No fridge in the room. To get ice you need to ask front desk. Would I stay here again, not sure. Although it was perfectly located, the stay was not what we expected. The staff though from the front desk to housekeeping were amazing!!!
