Karavados Beach Hotel

This a solid, reliable, slightly dated three star sort of place made exceptional by a great kitchen and the best customer service I’ve ever had. Everything is spotlessly clean, and everything works. It’s a quarter-mile to a glorious if small beach, and about three-quarters of a mile to the nearest all-purpose store and eaterie (in season only). Around 30 minutes from the airport and a €20 cab ride into Argostoli. The staff are the smiliest, most welcoming and helpful crowd you can imagine, and the in-house food is really tasty, fresh and reasonably priced.

A weekend trip away to Karavados beach hotel with 3 friends. A beautiful location with fabulous views of the sea and surrounding countryside. The staff are all lovely and so hospitable. A special thank you to Kristina, Dioniossis (Dennis) and Angelo who were all so lovely, friendly and made our stay one to remember. Dennis you made all our drinks taste perfect and was great company & Angelo our food was delicious and you was lots of fun. Karavados Beach hotel, we will be back. A very quiet and relaxing stay before the season gets going.

Decided on an end of season trip half-board, to somewhere we'd never been before. Excellent rooms with amazing views across the sea. The staff were very attentive and I can't fault the cleanliness of the rooms and the hotel in general. I can't say the bar staff were very friendly. The dining staff however went out of their way to cook vegan food for me, I can't thank them enough and the food was good quality. I would say there's not much at all to do once you come out of the hotel, you really do need to hire a car or get the bus otherwise it's a very long walk to the nearest nice beach ( there's a tiny beach at the bottom of the road but it really is tiny) or even further to the nearest town. My only criticism of the hotel, and it is a big criticism, is that the pool was freezing. It made absolutely no sense as there was a permanent lifeguard on duty. But because there was nobody in the pool he spent all day playing table tennis!! if the management had have increased the pool temperature by just a couple of degrees it would be five out of five.

Fantastic holiday , great hotel, rooms cleaned every day, food lovely, entertainment great, I would realy reccomend this hotel, to anyone, beautiful location, local bus service , staff great, beautiful surroundings, will be going back x

Absolutely loved this hotel - it's very remote although the few things in walking distance are lovely - small bit of beach down the hill gets very crowded, but a walk over to Trapezaki gave a bit more space (and a couple more places to eat), there are a couple of tavernas right by the small bit of beach, and one up the hill in Karavados itself (Happiness Tarverna, which also has a little shop) but there's not a lot else you can easily reach on foot. Food at the hotel was delicious - we were only on the bed and breakfast tariff so we paid to eat from the menu when we chose to eat at the hotel and everything we tried was absolutely lovely. Breakfast had a decent amount of variety and was all tasty. The hotel will arrange a taxi if you need one - we went to Argostoli a couple of times for €18 (cost a little more to get back again) We had a couple of issues with the room when we first arrived - the bed had been made into a twin rather than a double, and the shower head exploded off the hose - but both were rectified the first morning we were there. The pool area is fab and sun beds were fairly readily available at most times - could also sit with a view out to sea and the mountains rather than just facing the pool which was also really nice. The rooms are very dated and could probably do with sprucing up a bit, and because the doors are quite heavy and the floors are all tiled, lots of slamming doors and echoing footsteps down the corridors, and scraping furniture from the surrounding rooms, which meant we didn't really get a great night's sleep any night but that's careless customers rather than a fault of the hotel. Absolutely all of the staff we met were all brilliant too - massive shout out to Angelo who was genuinely friendly and chatty every time we saw him, as well as being extremely good at his job!

Beautiful hotel, very friendly helpful staff. We had a sea view to the front and mountains to the left. Very isolated. Ww had a modernised room my daughter an older room. Both were fine, very clean. If you have a modernised shower room don’t have the shower on full as it flows under the door into your room. If you are jet2 you need a chat with Karen the rep. She will give you all the local information and loads of help, she’s not there to just sell trips so defiantly make time to see her. The beach is close but down a steep road and very small. There are 2 places to eat there but one only opens 12-4 and the other gets very busy. The food at the hotel is nice but half board guests will get served first. It can be quiet a wait for your order but it comes out fresh and hot. There are 2 buses a day ( except Sundays) one to Agostolli and one to Lourdes beach. They return early so we would stay at the beach untill late and eat at one of the great restaurants there and get a taxi back. The restaurants will either call you one or give you a card, you’re looking around 20€. There is a larger second beach nearby, about 15 or so minute walk. Again down a steep hill. You can follow the coast, some small beaches and a fair few rocks to climb and get to Lourdes. Over all a fantastic holiday. Yes it’s isolated but we sussed the buses and had a great time. My top tip would be rent a car. The roads are very quiet.

Out of the way but friendly and good food. We hired a car for 3 days through jet2 and drove to several destinations our favourites being lassi beach and sami.. sami has a relax and watch the world go by a**osphere.

We had a lovely big apar**ent with views to die for . We decided to go half board but soon regretted it . Food was okay and breakfast basic but only 2 options and you had to choose the day before . Never have I ever had to do that , the pudding offered was only ever melon until it was greeknight , the lunch menu was very basic and didn’t have a Greek salad on the menu which is highly odd but I asked for it and they were happy to make it for me . the Greek pizza was the best pizza I’ve ever tried . Kefalonia has got very expensive in the last 4 years and was a bit of a shock how much it has risen . I advise anyone to get a hire car , the nearest shop was 2km away we love walking but in that heat it was a struggle . The closest beach is tiny so get there early if you want a spot . Trapezeki beach is a 25 min walk away up A dirt track that’s used by cars and has a huge hill going down . The area needs more and hotel in evenings is very quiet . Needs to be a little more lively although I read reviews it was still a shock how remote it was , we played tennis that was fun but rackets need replacing and some new balls . Plenty of sunbeds to get so need to get up at the crack of dawn . Sadly we wouldn’t return to This hotel purely based on how remote it is with nothing around but will be returning to kefalonia next year . We were also unlucky with the air traffic issues and flight was cancelled until the evening after , jet 2 did there best and a few flights more hours in the sun but all over the way to lixouri . Wish we were told before it was 4.35am until we got a bed after a very long 24 hrs thank you karavardos beach . It was lovely but could have been so much better .

Positives: Beautiful panoramic views, amazing staff, plenty of sunbeds. In comparison to the majority of comments on the food, we found the food to be quite pleasing, tried many dishes on the menu and did not disappoint - we were self catering so had no choice but to order from the restaurant. However, it is extremely isolated and mainly frequented by much older clientele so it is very very quiet all day and night. There is nothing within walking distance (nearest 1 shop a good 30 minute walk uphill - no street of shops). The 10 minute walk down to the beach was disappointing was not impressed with the beach - if you want golden sands and cute coves I suggest Lassi or Skala. Also, although clean and tidy, rooms were very dated circa 1980s and the WiFi is awful. Top tip, don't book a room with a garden view, as you will be disappointed. You will need a car to get about. There is a bus service that departs early In the morning to Argostoli but you can't always get a bus back especially at the weekend. If you want a change of scenery for a meal there is a dirt track opposite the bus stop outside the entrance that leads to Joy Boutique and Bar where the food, view, staff and ambience are outstanding.
