Reception staff are very friendly and welcoming, but unfortunately clearly lacked training from management as they did not know much about the hotel facilities. Pool was clean. Bed was quite comfortable. Breakfast was nice. The hotel was peaceful and quiet. The most shocking was the hygiene level from the cleaning staff. On day 2 we asked for a replacement tea cup when the staff came to do the cleaning. They said they don’t replace tea cups during a room stay, and that I can just wash it myself in the sink. I said I couldn’t as I had no soap to clean it. They said ‘no soap, only hot water, hot water good, no need soap’. I asked how they wash the cups. They demonstrated just washing it with water and their finger. They said this is how they clean tea cups when they clean the room. There was absolutely no way this was a misunderstanding due to language barrier (as management said it must have been) as they physically demonstrated it to us. We were shocked that they use a finger with no soap to clean cups, especially during covid times. And that asking for a clean cup was refused. This did not feel like the service of a 3 star hotel. Another problem - One of the reasons we booked the hotel was for the jacuzzi. However, the temperature was not warm enough. It was set to 33 degrees which is well below body temperature. Even though Portugal is sunny, the wind on the roof is chilly at 7pm and we were chivering so could only use it for a few mins. We asked the next day if the temp could be raised, explaining we were too cold. However they said the management/maintenence said it needed to stay at that temp. I guess to save money on heating. A waste of a jacuzzi. We could not use it again.
