The Arkin Colony Hotel

We have visited the Arkin prior to Covid19. However it has gone down hill considerably and there’s a lack of cleanliness, staff have a bad attitude and the food is very poor. We will not be returning.

Pros - Location - Spa - Roof top pool - Food Hotel within easy distance to harbour, bars,shops, and local transport. Rooms spacious and very clean. Cons - busy road opposite two petrol stations and traffic heavy all day. Staff on reception not helpful or accommodating. There is no air conditioning and our room on arrival at midnight was 26.5°. We couldn't believe it and had to insist on two fans that we left on permanently all night and the day when we were in the room. Some of the electric sockets and plugs had loose wiring so we had to keep reporting faults. Our main complaint was the heavy smell of petrol that we assumed came from the petrol station. When we phoned reception to request a move to another room we were told there were no more twin bedded rooms available but for what is classified as a five star hotel, I'm sure they could have accommodated us. The stench was overwhelming. Finally after calling in one of the cleaners she indicated it wasn't the petrol stations but the drain in the shower that she would clean out. That evening on returning to the room, the smell had gone. However next morning it started to seep in again. We called in another cleaner and pointed out the stench and showed her the sockets that didn't work. She said leave it to me and that night everything was fixed but we only had two nights left of our holiday. The cleaner's name was Hava and I would like to commend her to the hotel management. Our conversation was done though my translation app and sign language. In spite of everything we enjoyed our stay as the pros outweighed the cons. Would not stay at this hotel again until it is modernised. The summer months must be unbearable.

Lunch at the rooftop restaurant was delightful. We had t booked a table, but we were temporarily seated until a table with a window view could be prepared. The menu was varied and the food was delicious. Waiters were attentive and friendly.

What a lovely hotel,the rooms are very large and very clean.The cleaning staff are very friendly and nothing is any trouble. We did half board,the foods not great,but great soup,and excellent choice of salad and desserts,the warm food not so great. There was 1 particular member of staff,in the restaurant that was great,the other staff not very attentive or friendly. The pool was great and clean,but needs a bit more attention as you thought the beds were occupied,but actually were not,down to people not putting their towels in the basket provided. The downside was the ******,staff not good or friendly,very smokey,lucky to get a machine,I won money but was not given back the amount I actually won,but had no proof of this.

What an amazing hotel, from the minute we checked in! The room was a standard room on the 3rd floor over looking the front of the hotel on the main road with large patio doors which opened to allow fresh air in whilst you watched the world go by late in the evening, the room was spacious and clean with a coffee/tea facilities and a well stocked mini bar (prices were not excessive), selection of toiletries, and large bathroom towels. The room was the perfect temperature being able to set the air con to suit. The rooftop pool was wonderful and a good size, staff were continually checking the area for unused sunbeds, changing towels etc and drinks could be ordered to consume around the pool Breakfast, was hot and cold and self service, with such an amazing selection, the hot selection was changed each day to try and offer variety. One of the best breakfasts I have experience, it even offered fresh honey in honeycomb. The service at breakfast was one of the best I have experienced, such friendly and helpful waiters and waitresses. What more can I say, apart from we will be rebooking!

We came to The Arkin Colony Hotel, Kyrenia to have lunch as outside guests. After changing into our swimming suits we sat by the pool and ordered food and drinks. The waitress asked for our room number, to which we told her we were from outside the hotel. The food was OK, but the drinks were very sweet and the taste of the fruit, if there was any, was overpowered by the syrup. After we finished our meal and asked for the bill she asked us whether we are planing to use the pool. Only then did she inform us there is a surcharge per person of 350 TL (about 13 Euros) for the pool use. There is no sign stating this anywhere by the pool. We explaine to the manager that if we knew this we would have had lunch by the pool at our hotel instead and that the waitress should have advised us when she took the order. His answer was that this waitress is new and that he apologieses. We left very unhappy feeling we were treated rudely and unfairly. We will never go back there.

Looks good, rooms spacious & well-appointed, public areas comfortable. Excellent breakfast. However, aircon was not working in the rooms. Outside daytime temp was c.20C, room temperature was 27. Aircon unit was blowing out hot air; reception staff promised to check it out, & later reported it was OK. It wasn't. Repeatedly we were told there was nothing wrong. We could not leave the window open at night as the hotel is on a very busy main road, near a hospital, & ambulances were using sirens 24/7. A helpful young man (not on reception) found a fan, which moved the hot air around & reduced the temperature to 25 - still too hot. Not just us, other guests were too hot in their rooms. I did wonder whether it was a fault that should have been rectified, or a deliberate decision to not turn on the aircon . Either way, the hotel does not look after its guests very well.

Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and clean. Some instructions on how to use the AC/heating would of been useful as we gave up and instructions on how to use safe. There’s still A LOT of single use plastic items in the bathroom that were unnecessarily replenished, maybe NC not quite there yet with refills re environment issues. Also not necessary to wash towels every day if not requested to. The breakfast was plentiful with a huge variety and this changed everyday. The bar and lounge area are also delightful. We absolutely would recommend this hotel for its convenience to town and ability to drop off and pick up easily by car as well. Thank you

We spent 2 nights here and used the hotel as our base for a trip around northern Cyprus. The hotel rooms were large and comfortable. Rates are European plan so include breakfast and dinner and the restaurant buffet at breakfast and dinner was varied and plentiful but the real attraction was the restaurant staff who were incredibly friendly. The hotel spa was wonderful and massages were fabulous and a total bargain at around $40 for 1 hour! Unlike most of the luxury hotels in the Kyrenia area, the Arkin is not on the beach but in the center of the small town of Kyrenia, just a short walk from the Castle and port.
