Borrowdale Gates Hotel

It’s extremely good hotel where you can truely feel the people life in Lake District

Third visit to the Borrowdale Gates spread over a few years. Pleased to says its as good as it always been. Food was exceptional and service was first class especially in the restaurant. Rooms seem to have all been upgraded since the last time we visited and we got a free upgrade to a garden room when we arrived which was a nice surprise. This isnt a cheap hotel but you get what you pay for in life, and there are fewer and fewer hotels like this around the UK now so I hope this one stays exactly how it is. Will definitely be back.

What a fabulous hotel, so very relaxing and quiet. Easy drive, yet away from the main tourist hubs of the Lake District. We really enjoyed our two night stay there. The service and food are outstanding...especially Marilyn who took a few minutes to chat to us each morning. The room (a superior) was called Castle Cragg had a double aspect with lovely views and a small balcony. It was spacious and well equipped. We were given the option of a £5 bar credit if we did not have the room serviced - a great incentive to cut down on cleaning/changing towels/staffing. Breakfast had a great choice of hot options and dinner was outstanding - service level was just right without being fussy and rushed. There is a comprehensive fine list too, If you opted for the 3 course dinner you also enjoyed an Amuse Bouche and tea/coffee following your meal. The hotel has a lovely location with lots of walks straight from the door - we walked through to the lakeside at Manesty and also did Catbells on a circular walk. There is a boat service on the lake at Manesty that will take you into Keswick or on a circular tour around the lake, however due to high water levels it wasn't operating from the jetty's only from Keswick. Just a couple of 'things' that need work - the exterior could do with painting as it looks quite shabby, although with the Lake District weather this will be a challenge. There is also a smoking shelter/fire meeting point in the car park there are old wicker chairs and cushions that look like they came from the refurbishment, the area would look better if these were removed.

We had a very pleasant stay in The Borrowdale Gates Hotel. Since last time, the rooms have been renovated and it shows. Very nicely done and the new beds are excellent. The biggest improvement however was dinner: the food is stunning and at Michelin star level. We will certainly revisit.

We had the most amazing stay at this hotel from the moment we arrived, the service was helpful and very welcoming, the room was immaculate with stunning views and the food and drink was top notch! We would recommend over and over again.

Stayed here for two night with my girlfriend. Room was lovely, view was picturesque, very clean and well maintained. Hotel is cosy, nicely decorated, good service, fits in well with its surroundings. Breakfast was great and very well presented.

Highly recommend - all main areas are accessible. Friendly staff willing to assist at all times. Very comfortable spacious bedroom with good walk in shower. Sitting room area spacious with plenty separate divisions. Excellent breakfasts and,in our opinion five star evening meals. Table reservations are well timetabled so that the kitchen can provide the best unhurried service. Exterior peaceful surroundings away from what can be a busy tourist area.

My happy place…beautiful views,lovely bedroom,excellent food,comfortable and well furnished lounge.The wonderful staff are a dream team….nothing is too much trouble and the service is impeccable.A peaceful haven in which to relax and enjoy the surroundings and the walks .

The hotel is a little remote, but this makes for a very peaceful and restful break, The Staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The food was extremely good and cooked as we liked it to be.
