I love the homely decor and the delicious food, the warm ambiance and cleanliness of the space.

I stayed at the guesthouse for 2 nights and it was comfortable, with good amenities. Key was no power disruption and a well-stocked minibar. We were given good directions to get there and warned about the similarity between their suburb name and others in the area, so as to not go to the wrong address.

Beautiful house, brilliant staff, beautiful room, superb location, so accommodating. Brilliant food. Facilities are great. I cannot recommend Houghton Place enough. Sam is a delight, I will certainly be back!

Very nice place to stay and very well located. Wonderful hosts. Many thanks to Sam for his excellent advice on local eating options. The area is one of Joburg's safest and nicest suburbs to stay and drive around.

Staying at Houghton Place was a pleasure. The place is well located, the house is amazing and very confortable, the breakfast top, and the friendliness of Sam and Patricia was definitely a highlight. I definitely recommend stay at Houghton Place when you visit Johannersburg.

Best fresh fruit at breakfast I have had in a long time! I was very well looked after by Sam, Janine, Patricia and Sally - they made me most comfortable. My room was spacious, well appointed and kept in immaculate condition by Patricia and Sally. I would strongly recommend Houghton Place to any visitor.

I think it's important to know this is someone's house with a few hotel rooms upstairs. There are some less-than-ideal aspects. The place is very echoey, so if the owners are entertaining downstairs you will hear it in your room. The lighting is very harsh, bright white, which is a big no for me personally. And the bathroom/shower has frosted glass walls that lead on to the hallway. No one can really see you but it doesn't feel that comfortable. Just some strange design choices. The owner couple is incredibly sweet though and they have two very nice dogs too. So if you like a semi-homestay kind of feeling and aren't too picky about lighting and room design, it can be a comfortable and even unique stay.

Sam’s place is a great, relaxing place to decompress after a long flight to Johannesburg. The rooms are comfortable and Patricia does an excellent breakfast. The best parts are Milo and Teddy, the house dogs. Teddy is super affectionate and we had a good tug of war session in the backyard, and Milo is a sweet old guy.

What a great find, such a welcoming host and staff and the attention to detail is amazing. I will definitely be back. Easy location to Rosebank and Sandton and the Gautrain. All our rooms we clean and nicely appointed.
