The locations is nice, close to or in the grape valley, service is friendly, we stayed at the family room which is a duplex and had a good sleep. For the high price of 1.200 Yuan would have expected lights at entrance area of complex, more luxurious reception area (currently more Chinese boarding house style), bedside tables with lights, more than a basic breakfast. It’s a nice place for 300-500 max, for 1200 you usually get a luxury resort and service in China.

Shanshan is a small town and if you do come here, it would be to visit the Kumtaq desert. The desert is 15-20 minutes from the hotel, so is the Shanshanbei railway station. I recommend this hotel because of the service of the front desk staff, Ms Xiaoba who goes above and beyond to help. She was responsive on wechat and organised a car to pick us up, she willingly booked a taxi for as we couldn’t find the address to the night market on our DIDI app., she provided extra water and answered any questions with a smile. This is a new hotel so looks clean and fresh with a smart toilet. They even have tents/ tepees so if you have a kid, this is a welcome. I saw a room with spiderman and Barbie princess theme too. The breakfast has many Chinese options and they are well cooked and delicious. They do have a coffee machine. I’d stay here again if I were to revisit. Kumtaq Desert is worth a visit and the second golf cart/sightseeing mini bus drives you right to the end and brings you back to the second station. The other deserts we visited didn’t have this. Big room, super clean, great views, very good location with many small restaurants and nightlife around. Very copious breakfast with enough seating. Efficient laundry room. One window in the guest room can be opened. The aircon was not noisy! Bed linens of the highest quality. Special thanks to the most helpful staff at the reception. Xiao Pan and Sha Sha earn special points for helping me with a Captcha with Chinese characters! Free transfer from the railway station and back to the airport. 100% recommended.

Location very good in the city centre. You can walk to the museum and lake in a few minutes. Lots of restaurants and a good supermarket minutes away. Staff at check in very friendly and helpful. Breakfast good, if you like Chinese style. Room was spacious and modern. One of the most comfortable beds I've slept in for a long time! Aircon was reasonable - temperatures outside were still quite mild for Turpan. However, if I was booking in the summer months I would check reviews on Trip beforehand to make sure it was coping with the high temperatures. No fridge in the room, which was a surprising for a modern 4 star hotel and would be another disadvantage in the summer months there. Breakfast only starts at 0800. On the day I left, I had to get a taxi at 0750. The lovely ayis in the kitchen gave me a box of food to go and slept encouraging me to take even more food! However, no one was on at reception at that time! Overall, good in many areas but needs to improve in others.

Lee was a great host, speaks excellent English, and was very helpful with suggestions on both things to do around Turpan and also border crossing how to info. The dorm was clean, and supplied with clean linen (make your own bed), and with an attached hot water bathroom. The lodgings are simple, but there’s plenty of space, and upon arrival I was invited to eat dinner (pictured) with Lee and some other guests—delicious! After dinner they screened a movie on an exterior wall. The location is midway between the station and Turpan proper, neither of which are comfortable walking distance, but taxis are cheap and easy to get. The hostel is within easy walking distance of one of the very interesting water irrigation museums, and there’s a good Uighur restaurant about ten minutes away on foot. If you’re on a budget, looking for a “traveller vibe” style place, and don’t mind the slightly out of the way location, this is a great option. Would stay here again.

What a wonderful place to stay! Even though we arrived very late in the evening, they still cooked dinner for us. The room was spotlessly clean, with lovely decor and had everything we needed. For a peaceful getaway, this is the place. The manager and his family were delightful - so kind, friendly and helpful. After a day out sight-seeing, we loved relaxing on the hotel balcony and looking up at the amazing rock formations only a stone's throw away. We stayed three nights and hope to come back some day. First and foremost, this hotel accepts foreigners. The hotel is quite ok but not great. I booked a no-window non-smoking room (don’t do it, go for room with window) because I thought there is more chance people still smoke in non-smoking rooms with windows. The first room they gave me, put the key card on and electricity didn’t work. Waited for them to check with no result so I was relocated to another room. It’s non-smoking but I can clearly smell the smoke. Took 2 days for the smoke smell to go away which is a pity. The room is small but enough for a solo like me. Each floor they built 4 lines of rooms, the 2 middle lines stay wall-to-wall to each other and are the ‘no-window’ rooms. I would definitely recommend you to choose the room with window, because it means you don’t share a lot of ‘walls’ to other room and have a window to open at least for circulation if room is smelly or if room is too hot. In my case, my room smells smoke, and the room heater system only allows 34-37 degree celsius which is crazy! Very hot if turned on so I had to turn it off the whole time I stay at the hotel. Even though it is winter time, the whole hotel is already on heater. Unable to adjust room temperature is annoying because it means no air circulation. There is a blowing machine (similar to a fan) in the room but it is not efficient quickly enough. The room feels extremely suffocating. I did really wish for a window. Also because the no-window rooms share 3 walls with other rooms (not counting the upper floor), it’s more bad-luck chances for weird noise. In my case, I had to endure one whole freaking night with 2 loud Uyghur couples who cannot hold themselves back from banging the freak out and making all kinds of terrible terrible noise. Seems like no soundproof for these walls.

This 4 star hotel has a goid rating on Trip.com and I can understand why. However, I liken this hotel to a 20 year old luxury car such as an E36 7 series BMW or Lexus LS 430. Exceptional and glorious when new, but getting old and tired fast. On a superficial level the rooms look grand and sumptuous, but on greater scrutiny there are issues. One if these are the carpets, which are either in dire need of steam cleaning on a forensic level of thoroughness, or outright replacement. Some sections are worn and faded, while many odd bits and pieces can be found (and felt with bare feet), that seem to have escaped the attention of the room staff, e.g toothpicks, other miscellaneous refuse deposited by previous guests. I booked a continental double room, for $68 AUD per night and there was a misalignment of the door with its frame. Large enough to see through to the outside! The room contained a sofa Comfortable enough but with fabric badly worn away. The white veneer paint on tables has seen better days. Having said all this, overall, the hotel offers rooms of a relatively high standard. Ornate furnishings, large, extremely comfortable beds and pillows, a huge bathroom with sufficient water pressure and responsive hot water on demand (bathroom has a smart lighting arrangement which switches on via a sensor). There are a dozen individual controls for room lighting. Lots of cupboards and drawers and powerpoints where needed. There is a gym but for some undisclosed reason is currently closed, of February 2024. Is a buffet style restaurant with several guests dining in it which looked very well staffed. Reception will go out of their way to give assistance with arranging tours, ordering taxis etc, and try to ensure guests are satisfied. In summary, the hotel looks good and to some extent is good, but may not be worth paying $50 US a night to stay in and was a little disappointing.
