Perfect location, friendly and helpful staff, with a high quality breakfast. The room was very comfortable. The roof terrace looked amazing although we didn't use it due to the weather.

This was our second visit to the Barcelo Hotel and the breakfast buffet and warm service from the staff is luxurious. The staff who ensure the smooth running of the breakfast also helped us to organise a small birthday party. Their fresh hot buffet is fabulous, add to that the absolutely central location of the hotel and the clean and pleasant environment makes Barceló Funchal Oldtown one of the most luxurious places in the centre of the capital of Madeira. Having booked the most awful apartment in Funchal we knew after just a few hours we had no choice but to leave. We arrived at the Barcelo disappointed, worried and desperate for comfort and hospitality. And that’s exactly what we found. The staff went out of their way to get us booked in for the week. We were encouraged to download the Barcelo app so that we could take advantage of a discount and then given our room key. The Barcelo is a stylish comfortable hotel with a small roof top infinity pool and bar. The breakfast was fabulous with lots of choice and the public areas smelt divine. The beds are magnificent and the bathrooms superb. We did find restaurants in Funchal slightly disappointing therefore we ate a few times in the hotel restaurant. The food was great and the service friendly and fun. A few Madeiran dishes would have been an added bonus. Since our trip we are considering visiting some other Barcelo group hotels. Thank you for saving our holiday from disaster.

We loved this hotel! The staff is amazing, from checking in, to the immaculate housekeeping, to the fantastic breakfast (the gentleman making the omelets is wonderful)…. The beds are super comfortable too! The location is perfect, in a nice square right where the cathedral (Se) is, right across the street from the water, in the old town. The bar and restaurant were great too and we enjoyed live music one of the nights we were there. A great stay! We will definitely be back!

This hotel is a true masterpiece! The room I had the pleasure of staying in was not only spacious but also adorned with a tastefully modern decor that exuded elegance. The hotel itself is a visual delight, with every corner exuding charm and sophistication. The breakfast provided was absolutely delightful, and the view from the terrace, where the pool is located, is simply breathtaking. I must also commend the exceptional service provided by Isabel Silva at the reception. Her warmth, professionalism, and infectious smile truly enhanced my experience. Without a doubt, this hotel is a beacon of excellence in hospitality and is highly recommended for anyone seeking a memorable stay in Funchal!

A cold reception a check-în with a two-hour delay. No one accompanied us to present the room, services and configuration of the hotel to us. The swimming pool is a jar of maximum 15 m2 and the gym is better to go alone. Two people in this room so small without external ventilation is very bad for health ... Oxigen is vitiated after ten minutes. A cheap decoration type Amazon. Cleaning ???? Throughout the stay we left papers that fell into the bathroom and wires in the bedroom and they stayed on the floor until our departure (supporting photos). Very amazing! Breakfast, we can not say anything because it is not served in bedroom ... We do not understand as this place could have five star. We find out about responsible organizations. If you are used to traveling: flee this place

The air conditioning was faulty and went so fast at 3am by itself, it sounded like somebody had came into our room on a motor bike. It wouldn't go off on the first attempt and eventually when it did, we were wide awake. We switched it off and decided not to call reception as this would have involved more than a little bit of an upheaval and not just for us, other guests too. The shower continues to run hours later and very randomly. These things tell me it shouldn't be advertised as 5 star. These things don't happen overnight and should be checked on a regular basis
