On our lengthy Scotland vacation in mid-May, Inverlochy Castle Hotel was among the finest luxury hotels we experienced, and a treat after hiking the West Highland Way. The building is gorgeous, as are the furnishings, if you like things historic, antique and traditional. We only stayed one night, as we had reservations on the steam train to Mallaig the next day. Our room, on an upper floor (with no elevator) was basic but very nice, although quite warm due to the unusual weather. It was fine once we opened a window for the night. The bed was very comfortable. Because we were tired from our last 15-mile hike on the Way, we ate in an adjunct restaurant located just outside the grounds, but owned by the hotel, rather than the fancy Roux dinner. It was a short walk to get there, and the food and service were great. We also had a cocktail in the hotel living room area, which is beautifully appointed. Next morning, we had breakfast in one of the beautiful dining rooms. Again, the service was exceptional, as was the menu and food. The grounds at Inverlochy Castle Hotel are gorgeous, with both manicured areas and a large surrounding farm where sheep and cows graze, including a couple Highland cows! The only downside to this hotel is that it is a bit pretentious, but that's ok because the staff knows this is a special place.
