Wow. What a great experience we had staying at the Hotel Happy Filzmoos. Firstly: Filzmoos. It was our first trip to Filzmoos itself, which is a lovely, quiet Austrian ski village with great amenities for families with young children / beginner skiers. We were concerned with the early-season timing and the onset of unseasonably warm temperatures, but the ski areas in Filzmoos were ready to accommodate - certainly with all the training areas ready with snow, and also several of the lifts and runs. Great location as well if you have children and don't want to spend hours in the car after arriving from abroad. It's an hour easy drive from Salzberg. Now: Hotel Happy Filzmoos. Everything here was outstanding. In terms of service - whilst they seemed to be the busiest operation in town, they ALWAYS were able to accommodate us as guests as well as for drinks and dining. And always with a genuine concern for our satisfaction. We turned down the half-board with the intent of experiencing other options within Filzmoos. It was a bad decision - the food at Hotel Happy was so good that we ate in for 4 of the 5 nights we stayed there, and regretted the evening we dined out. Not to take away from other options in town - they were lovely - but the food at the Happy was excellent. In terms of location - get your kids signed up at the Skischule and you can literally spend the entire week without commuting more than 100m on foot (and certainly don't need a car). We signed up our 9 and 11 year old for 3 half day lessons, and they loved it so much that they opted to extend some of the days to full and add a 4th. The school, rentals, chairlifts (and lively apres ski) are all on-site or next door. The offered Filzmoos Winter Pass gave access to the local swimming pool and skating rink for free - which we made use of daily (and again, less than 100m away). The rooms were super clean, well maintained and ample sized (though not large). Hotel Happy was able to accommodate our family of 5 in 2 adjacent rooms (2 adults and a 3 year old in one, and my 9 and 11 year old in the other). We'll be back!
