Scholars Townhouse Hotel

This was the coolest bed and breakfast we have ever stayed at. The building is beautiful with god awful parking. It once house a religious order and our bedroom was the chapel ! If you ever go there ask for the chapel room. We were unable to stay for breakfast as we had a train to catch. Our dinner the night we stayed was very good, and busy with the locals, so,you knew it would be a good dinner. The staff was super friendly along with the wait staff .

We celebrated my daughters 40th birthday in scholars and we had a beautiful room for the 8 of us all to ourselves. The food was absolutely delicious and very well presented. The staff that looked after us where absolutely wonderful especially our waiter Ciaran he went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect for us adding to the lovely experience we had at Scholars. Great food great service I would highly recommend eating here.

This is a lovely, well-located hotel with well-trained, helpful staff. It's in a quiet location and their restaurant/lounge is very popular with locals, for good reason. Our room was small but fine. We are greatful for the staff working so hard to successfully find our luggage lost on the bus.

Definately won't be returning to this establishment. The food was average at best, disappointing considering the cost. The decor was dated and grubby. The rooms were very cold and fusty. The toilets were disgustingly dirty. All in all this place smacks of short cuts and cost cutting.

Myself and my wife have been to Scholars multiple times over the years and it has always up until this evening being michelin star standard. The starter was as good as usual but the mains were the most under seasoned bland things I've ever eaten, terrible is an understatement. Then I was hoping the dessert would be better..... but no, I had the orange chocolate tarte, which the was burned so ruined the dessert. After we paid we found out that the chef was changed. After years of going here, we won't be back. Before it was pricey but we'll worth it but now it's over priced under seasoned bland waste of food. Also service was extremely slow compared to normal asked for the bill and 15 minutes later i had to go to the counter to pay as the waiter never came back, and it wasn't packed it had multiple free tables. It was valentines night and no extra was put on like there always was before. Shocking experience compared to before! Stay away until the chef from before comes back or someone to their standard and the floor staff are better. The only plus were the girls at the front they were very attentive and professional, taking coats and supplying lighters when we went to smoke.

I was taken to Scholars by my daughter and friend as a birthday treat. It was a wonderful experience and the afternoon tea was second to none in presentation, ambience and the food was on a par with The Ritz London afternoon tea. I would highly recommend the afternoon tea experience as you will not be disappointed. The kind staff boxed up some cakes we were unable to eat there to take home.

We love all our overnights stay in scholars we go as often as possible it never disappoints it's such a cosy hotel the food is top rate and the staff our very professional,as soon as we arrive we always feel relaxed and happy cant wait for our next visit.

Too small, too crowded parking all gone. Nice place but no room. It’s an ex Christian brothers house. That’s why it retains slight spooky atmosphere. There was a quality I simply couldn’t ascertain it’s source, it definitely has a horror film, type quality to it.

We came to Scholars for afternoon tea which was gluten free. We told the receptionist we did not want turkey or salmon when booking. Nothing was too much trouble. From the moment we arrived we really felt like we were being very well looked after. A special mention to Siobhan who really went above and beyond to make sure we had an enjoyable, luxurious afternoon tea. She is a credit to the hotel! What a fantastic experience and a really tasty gluten free afternoon tea. We will definitely be going back. It is 100% worth the price tag of €40 per person.
