Melrose Guest House

The Melrose is similar to other Manx B&B I have used, The property while looking tired and dated is adequate for my type of stay. The Host Peter makes the difference here, very amiable, very helpful, interested in talking to you, serves a cracking full English breakfast, piping hot with great quality ingredients, great coffee too. The room was refreshed every day with tea and coffee etc, plenty too, TV is BBC only tho, bed was really comfy, would I stay again, too right I would, if it works out next year I will book again.

We stayed six nights at Melrose Guest House in mid-August and found it very clean, with a comfortable bed, generous cooked breakfasts plus cereal and good strong coffee. Our host Peter was extremely helpful with food & Wifi requests and with our questions about the island and its places of interest. We booked only a week or two in advance so didn't get a sea view but the shower more than made up for this. It proved to be an excellent good base to explore Douglas and the island: 5 mins walk from the Manx Museum, 10 mins to the bus station, and 15-20 mins walk from the ferry terminal.

The Melrose Guest House is a b&B in Fouglas. It's in a good location within 10 minutes walk from the Promenade and Town Centre Overall the place looks a little tired and dated both inside and out and would benefit from some updating My single room was small but cosy and included a TV, tea making facilities and a wash basin in the room. The toilet and bathroom were shared. Service was good with the hosts Peter and Xin being very friendly, welcoming and helpful. A delicious full cooked breakfast was served each day and they were happy to make changes to suit individual tastes. My stay was excellent value for money at under £150 for three nights. I would consider staying again but would probably book a larger room if I did.

Made to feel very welcome, lovely room, very clean, great breakfast, good location to base ourselves. Handy for shops and promenade. Would definitely stay at the Melrose again.

Ok you need to give this place a chance. At first glance when i saw my room i thought i cant stay here. But i gad one of the older rooms. Tge entire guesthouse is being renovated by the owner Peter. Its a bit rough and ready round the edges but what it lacks in age it nakes up for in service and hospitality. The host Peter is the best guedt house owner i havel stayed with. His knowledge of the island is exfellent. He creates a locely convivial breakfast a**osphere where you end up knowing all the other guests. A full healthy full english breakfast to get you on your way. First time ever i did not gave an ensuite but this was my fault. But i would do it again. The shared bathrooms hace been completely remodelled and are up to date. There are two fantastic bathrooms. It worked perfectly as only a few rooms are use the shared facilities. On arrival and into your own especially if its an older one you nay think "Oh no" However please give this place and its fantastic host a chance.

Business trip moderating art so location was just right.Walking distance to schools, bus station. House of Keys one way, Manx museum the other. Just round the corner from Rosemount bus stop. Great breakfast and friendly host. Quiet, bed hard but comfortable,room nice temperature. Some oddities like missing door handles but nothing important. Cleaned every day. Enjoyed our stay.

4 night stay durind the southern 100 you pay for what you get dont complain if you want a 5 star spa hotel pay the money peter is a sound host cooks a cracking full english rooms are cleaned dailey yes its an old victorian hotel the same as most in douglas it is what it is see you next year
