De Abdij Van Dokkum

Excellent hotel in the old city centre of Dokkum. Got a free room upgrade, welcoming drink and snack. Very friendly staff and excellent room. Superb breakfast and had one evening dinner which was also delicious. Highly recommendable for a great stay in Dokkum.

De Abdij was the perfect place to celebrate our yearly Chris**as dinner with friends. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and they all seem to love what they are doing! Very gratifying! They had meticulously prepared a big table for 16 in the wine cellar where we were served a six course meal with a wine arrangement. Everything was delicious and every plate was not only a thrill for our taste buds but presented like detailed works of art. The hotel is cozy, stylish, impeccable and very comfortable. We will definitely be visiting again soon!

We stayed for one night at the hotel ABDIJ van Dokkum which is situated in a charming building with a vibe from the past. Even though the room seemed as if it was recently renovated, there was unfortunately no airconditioning present. In addition despite having a room at the ground floor it was not possible to open the windows with the only exception of a very small part of them that did not really make any difference in terms of air circulation/cooling. That made our stay pretty difficult concerning the very high summer temperature of ~30oC. The hotel restaurant personnel made us feel as we were not welcome and they were unfriendly and not flexible. Plant based options were not available for dinner. Concerning the breakfast, when we turned up at the restaurant in the morning we were asked whether we had a reservation. Unfortunately nobody informed us during the check in that a reservation for breakfast is necessary from 18:00 the day before. Overall considering the price of 185 Euros for one night for this hotel and the low quality of service one could conclude that the hotel has a very low value for money. We would definitely not be coming back nor recommend it.

We really liked this hotel: the rooms are beautifully arranged. Very tasteful decoration, also in the bathroom. Very kind service and storage room for the bicycles, including charging points. Only inconvenience is the absence of airconditioning but there is a fan. The breakfast was not really up to the same standard as the rooms. You get a tray and there is mostly bread. Some of it was not really fresh (sugar bread was really dry).

From the booking confirmation I had a feeling that I was going to like this hotel. These guys & girls have it right. Total customer satisfaction focus, thinking outside the box and anticipating your needs. Even before you arrive. Accommodation, blown away. Forget how clean was the room, that will never be an issue! Breakfast more than acceptable but definitely eat there in the evening. Not sure who is behind the menu and execution but intend to find out on my next visit. Sophisticated, doesn’t come close, has to be experienced. Every member of staff I encountered excelled, EVERY MEMBER.!!The Italian born Sommelier is so passionate about the hotel and “his” wines, you can trust his judgement without question. Location perfect. I will be back soon.

WOW.... I can pretend that I did travel a lot already, but I have not been to any place before with such a charming and dedicated service. It all started with the check-inn to the hotel, where we have been greeted by Lisa who was very friendly, took us to our room and gave as a first introduction to the hotel and to the very nice and pleasant city of Dokkum. All of staff is very kind and polite without any exception. This goes for the receptionists, the servers in the restaurant as well as for the housekeeping team. Compliments to all of them! We had booked a Junior Suite, a very nice room under the roof, with the only inconvenient for me since I'm quite tall, that I had to be careful not to bang my head against the wooden beams of the construction supporting the roof. All of the facilities of the hotel are very clean and well maintained. The restaurant of the hotel, "De Waard van Dokkum" offers excellent surprise menues, with a great choice of wines but also very good beer brewed by Chef Michael. The kitchen staff did pay intention to my wife's lactose intolerance for all the dishes we had. The same was the case at breakfast were you are served with their home-made bread and yoghurt. In summary I can tell that we did feel very welcome and comfortable at this awesome hotel where we could enjoy the dutch hospitality which wouldn't be possible without all of the friendly, dedicated stuff. This hotel has a super central location near the ice fountain. The breakfast is served at your table in a high ceiling stilish and spacious room. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Our room had a king bed that slept very comfortable. The room had two windows, a view of the church but no screens to keep the flies out. It could benefit from an airco in the summer.

The hotel is very nice. We had a ground floor suite which was comfortable and reasonably quiet. Hotel staff were excellent, very friendly and the room was maintained very well. Would recommend hotel. We ate one evening in the Restaurant de Waard van Dokkum based in the hotel. The food was tasty but not exceptional. Service was friendly and wine recommendations very good but food delivery far too slow. We had 2x amuse bouche, a bread board, starter, fish, main and desert and it took 4 hours. The first 4 items came reasonably quickly but then it took nearly and hour for the fish and main to arrive and another half hour before the dessert (cold) turned up. The head waiter apologised and discounted us one glass of wine but it really was unacceptable. Another issue was portion size, you can have 3, 4, 5 or 6 course surprise menus, we opted for the 4 but portions were same size as for 6 course menu so we left hungry, this should not be the case after a 120 euro meal. As said the food was tasty but delivery and value need to improve. Cannot recommend.

Gelegen in historisch gebouw in centrum van Dokkum. Mooie kamers die allemaal anders zijn. Wij hadden kamer 11, een ruime suite onder het dak (oude balken). Mooie inrichting en verzorgd interieur. Vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. Uitstekend ontbijt.
