Datong Yungang Hotel

We spent two wonderful nights at Yungang Hotel in Datong. First of all, our deepest gratitude to Yang wen yuan - 杨文元. When booking from Europe, we did not realise correctly the time required to get to the caves and to the hanging monastery (a must view when in Datong). We thought that by using public transport we could manage to do both in a short period of time. So wrong! We arrived and Yang wen yuan - 杨文元 reassured us and in less than 30 minutes he was able to help and book for us a private car for the next day. He made our stay unforgettable. Thanks a lot from both of us if you are reading ! Plus, this hotel is wonderful : super new, technological and the staff is super kind (from the ones in the lobby to the ones in the restaurant/cafeteria). Breakfast is amazing. You can have everything, freshly made for you.

The family room is excellent for family of 4. The location is splendid and able to access grand Wanda Mall within walking distance. The breakfast buffet was excellent with wide variety of food. The service rendered at the breakfast restaurant by Miss 白雪峰 and 李志芳 were excellent. The house keeping service provided by 薛文梅 was excellent as well. All is terrific!

Probably the best hotel I ever stayed in China. It's a five star hotel with new and big rooms. Everything in the room is voice controlled. This stay made my vacation in China perfect.

Stayed here 3 nights with my family. The hotel is close to the high speed railway station. The guest room is well appointed and comfortable. Cleanliness can do better, there was mold in the bathroom. The bell staff service was lacking, our request to arrange for transport to the Train station on the day of our departure was denied The bell hop asked us t make our own arrangements Other than that, all good during our stay. We would like to make special mention to their Front Office manager, Mr Yang whom we had the pleasure to meet on the first day when we checked in. When he found out that we required a driver and a guide to bring around us to explore Datong, Mr Yang quickly made the arrangement at a reasonable price. He even arranged for the Chinese Restaurant to serve us lunch when he heard that we needed lunch. Lunch at the restaurant was good and we continued to patronise thoroughout our stay. We must compliment the great service rendered by all day dining and Chinese restaurant service teams. Thank you, once again to Mr Yang for going his extra mile to serve us. Your hospitality made our stay at Yungang Hotel so memorable.

Excelent service, beautiful very modern luxurious hotel, delicious breakfast! I have noted special thanks to the staff below who were really helpful during our stay😀! Definitely recommending this hotel to anyone who travel to Datong. I would strongly suggest hotel to consider making the payment process for foreigners easier by accepting visa and mastercard, just a suggestion as I would love to come back one day 😁

I don’t often leave public reviews but I feel strongly about this hotel. After we checked in, we were brought to our original room and it was… disappointing. The bathtub was filthy (you can see the photo below) and there was water everywhere on the floor. We called room service and thankfully they sent someone up to re-do the bathroom. It was also unbearably hot and room temperature, at one point, reached 35 degrees. Front desk knew we were unhappy with the room so they switched us to another room on the 9th floor and that one was alright. The dining room is very fancy but the design is very strange and inconvenient as the floors are not connected. The pools surrounding the dining room and mist from the water fountains are also dangerous for children. It’s really not worth the 5-star status to be honest.

I had a Very good experience at the hotel thanks to Wendy, hotel staff who is speaking English and helped me with everything I needed. highly recommended!

The room was clean and beautiful, the food was delicious, but most importantly, the staff were really really sweet. Also the hotel staff was super friendly, a lot of people could speak good English, and they all made us feel super welcome. A suuuuper nice and friendly lady called 王浩然helped us get a round trip car for the trip to the Buddha(云冈石窟)and also arranged for the hotel to hold on to our luggage after we checked out so we could go see the Buddha.
