If you visit Datca don’t miss a meal at Palaia restaurant which is situated as a part of the beautiful Palaia hotel next to the sea. I had the opportunity to eat there many times while visiting a Turkish friend in Datca for the summer. The beautiful and elegant design of the hotel and restaurant has a very calming effect on one especially after the bustle of downtown Datca at night. But it is the award winning and Master chef Nihat Doğtürk who takes the cooking and transformation of food and elevates it to an art form. A truly gifted chef his delicious food makes the whole culinary experience at Palaia so worth a visit. Whether it’s the fresh grilled sea bass served over baby potatoes in a light basil sauce or the signature pasta dish with fresh shrimp, baby octopus, and muscles cooked in an exquisite tomato sauce, you will love the food. I have never had such delicious fresh fish cooked with such care and layers of flavor. Begin with a tasty salad and end with a luscious dessert and you won’t be disappointed. The service is attentive, efficient, and very friendly. Reasonably priced, make a visit to this first rate restaurant a top priority next time you are in Datca.
